I tried to read the article... honestly, I did! However, when the weight of curiosity was expressed in kilograms on both Earth and Mars, I stopped reading. Kilograms is an expression of mass, not weight. And, to express distance in miles, but then switch to speed in km/h...
Do I think the article could have some substance? Yes, I don't doubt that, but, like an article on CodeProject, if you can't get people to read past the initial paragraphs, you've lost already.

I haven't read it yet, but if they can't get trivial stuff right: Why would I trust them to get the parts I can't sanity check correct either?

What astounds me is that they launched a new XP based version of windows embedded in 2009 (the one whose 10 years of support runs to 2019).
The fact that this products existence is going to require they continue to provide security fixes for most of the XP codebase for five more years makes me even more cynical than usual about the decision to charge businesses significantly more for post cutoff security patches than they did with previous versions of windows and to deny any access to them to consumers at all.

Since the first beta leak.. well.. since the first pre-beta image leak, Windows 8 has had a mixed reaction. Some believe that the new Metro-- or Modern-- interface has seriously affected their workflow, whereas some accepted the Start Screen as a welcomed addition and replacement to the cluttered almost 20 year old Start Menu. "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other."

Seriously? WTF is he smoking? That's certainly not been my experience. I have found windows 8 to be better, faster and more reliable than windows 7. And windows 7 was by far their best OS to date; windows 8 is even better. I personally have found it to be very power-user friendly.

I'm assuming/hoping he means, "Metro is the antithesis...".
Win 8 hasn't really been that bad, once I turned off that charms menu as much as possible, and learned, "Windows key, start typing" to run apps. You're also right: it's been faster (startup mostly) than previous Windows, and at least as reliable as Weven.

I updated my win8 netbook/tablet without any problems (excluding those caused either by its wifi sucking or downloads speeds being heavily throttled while the windows store app was in the background) several months ago. IIRC I did it between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

My (old) desktop's still running Win 7. When I ever stop procrastinating and get around to it, I intend for my new one to be running Win 8.1 (needed for mixed DPI support after I buy a 4k monitor and for the win9 upgrade path).

The future of the smartphone will be to destroy it.
There's no need to glue any I/O device directly onto the computing/networking unit. We have to break all those modules apart and apply them in our wearable's and gadgets where needed. The computer/networking unit will just have to soak all that wireless transmitted data up and feed it to it's apps; preferably without the user ever having to interact with it in any way.
