Why would engineers want to know coding principles?  Isn't that like saying they should know accounting principles? Or agricultural principles?
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

On the other hand, yes, I do think engineers should know accounting principles. Ag principles? I suppose depending on the type of engineer?

Engineering field comes with a discipline where one has to follow the principles and practices. Although the author might not have specifically said about Software Engineer, still every Engineer irrespective of their field will have their own principles. Today everyone jumps in and codes but do they all become "Good or Great Programmers", Yes if they do follow the fundamental principles.
BTW The Ten Commandments that a person follows is nothing but "Biblical principles".

Now we have moved on to cover temperature sensors, a very important part of the work we do relating to solar water heating systems. Being able to control a pump based on the temperature of one or more sensors is very powerful, but Halogen Leak Detector makes it (relatively easy) to also monitor those sensors over the internet and track the exact state of the system in real time remotely while also logging the data.
