PS. The scientist (Leo Szilard) who thought of the chain reaction did take out a patent on it. It was pretty much confiscated by the British government during World War II.

It's interesting how four of them are functional programming languages?
As to cutting edge, I don't know. Erlang, Scala, Haskell, and OCaml have been around for a while.
Then you've got 2 Google languages.
And then you've got the sewer Javascript enhancement languages.

Yes, but "a while" is relative, most of computing still seems to think the 1970's are state-of-the-art (the compile-link cycle, is a hangover, from batch processing of compilation tasks), and UNIX was developed then, and most "modern" O/S still haven't progressed much further (at heart at least - GUI's may be a bit prettier).
So, by those terms, most of that list are "cutting edge".
