think of the benefits...
I recently bought a new 27" monitor (for 2nd screen). Was looking at 4k models - a quite good one was on a very good special, almost bought it. Then realised my current 25" 2K was a bit of a strain when I'm tired, so for $100 less I got the equivalent spec 27" 2K. (Very nice.) Why buy a 4K just to scale the damn thing back up 200% or more?
So what I'm saying is being a bit older much wiser why pay more for the likes of 4K screens and super-hi-res phones with giga-pixel lenses when you've only got at best 2K eyes.
More money for the kids inheritance kidding, meant quality food, drink, even furniture etc.

Thank you, but bother. I have three screens and now have a lust for three 4K screens. Might have to sell the dog.

I've been wondering that myself. Which is why I use a 40" 4K TV and run it at its native resolution - rescaling is just a waste of pixels IMNSHO.

I'm not even old (just above 20) and rarely do I have to go above 1080p...

Try using google maps outside on your phone when the ambient light is above 3 candelas.
It didn't take me long to dump that garage and install Osmand.

Actually, it's something they just copied from TV commercials (i.e., the hell-spawn known as marketing) with fine print they really really really don't want to read.
Coming to mind: Senior insurance for $9.95/month: amazingly tiny light blue text on a medium blue (but not solid color) background.
By the way - even if you got your wish - can you read 15 lines of fine print in the 3 or 4 seconds they give you? Maybe it's better you don't even notice it's there.

Agreed. The f***ers who designed Microsoft's Expression Blend come to mind.

It (soft grey unfocussed fonts on a softer background) is a really annoying thing. Too much of the modern 'design' approach, and not enough 'accessibility' considerations.
There are many web site I just won't read, because they are too hard. It's the same problem as having very small print.
Maybe a few more reports to one's local disability discrimination authority and accessibility services may help raise awareness.

I agree, easier to go elsewhere, but if you absolutely, positively have to read the text on that website, select the text. They tend to forget to style that use case, so it gets left at the default white on blue... viola.. readability

Definitely a millennial! We are putting our house on the market and the real estate agents we have spoken with suggest light to very light grey in order to appeal to millennial buyers......

How many millennial buyers can afford your house?

Seems that married millennial's, with children, engineering, accounting, or business degrees, can pony up the big money to buy more expensive dwellings.

First of all, it would be better to sacrifice him or her, not to him or her.
Second, this reminds me of why I quit trying to read "Wired" back when magazines were a thing.
Yellow font on white, gray on grey, artsy-fonts in 3 point fonts... when folks get so artsy and ignore readability, I'm not going to fight to read their magazine/website/app. The probability that someone that stupid in presentation of information is actually going to have something I need to know approaches zero pretty darn fast.

android studio is the worst out of the box so far I've used. took me forever to find a decent theme with good contrast. my dyslexia isn't as bad with dark backgrounds and light text, like the visual studio dark theme seems to work well.
too many editors are grayish on grayish, it's pretty but causes way too much eye strain.

And, while we're at it, how many versions of windows 7 have?
And what can we infer from this?

The fifth version is about to go off support[^], leaving two versions supported: the one that just got proclaimed safe to use (1809), and 1803. Not counting long term support releases. And soon the release they’ll start Beta testing in “late May”.
As for Weven, I think they’re all on paid support these days. Which means... uhm, two? (Release and SP1)

Almost.
Weven's supported until January 2020[^].
Windows 8 is done and dusted.
Five versions of winio are either booted or being booted from support.
So we're currently on windows 15, with only 7, 14, and 15 supported -- and 14, 15, and 16 will also probably go out of support before weven.
So the same amount of versions that came after weven are out of support as versions before weven.
If that doesn't make it clear that even ms thinks windows 8 and winio are cr@p, I don't know what does
