This rises an important question : what the elephant happened in 10/2014 ?

"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, upgrading your OS." -- Bilbo
Upgrading is to be avoided, especially for an Operating System. Best to junk it or wipe it and start fresh.

Not necessarily. I've never had an issue upgrading the OS on my iPhone (note: a few people have had issues with some updates, but those were generally fixed within a day or two by Apple). *I am not trolling - just reporting my own experience.*
According to my calculations, I should be able to retire about 5 years after I die.

Nor have I had trouble when my Droid has upgraded itself. I was speaking in a more general sense, including desktop and server systems.

I'm about to apply the IE Security update. Is it crippling systems? Is it eating hard drives?
Is it melting monitors? Is this the worst Microsoft patch so far?
Is it ok? Give me some support here. I can't go this alone.
Seriously, has any ran this update? Is it copacetic?

Do you not remember the DOJ case?
Microsoft said, and I do (not) quote, "Our operating systems is crap without IE extensions and if people don't update to the newest IE then the entire OS will crash and burn and explode and melt down."
So unless you aren't running windows, you've updated our IE. Oh, you have!

I have installed the latest IE11 patches on Windows 7 Home Premium, and so far have had no problems with them.
My trust in MS is limited. I did perform a complete system backup before doing so.

Thanks for your reply. I was just curious if this was one of those that BSOD'd the system like recent MS updates.
Also, great Churchill quote.

It's more fun being surprised. I like waking up in the morning to find my computers have automagically rebooted.

FTFY
I have had some bad experiences with MS updates. Once sorry, twice warned!

That's the type of thing I was wondering about too. Thanks for the input.

I just ran it along with 15 other 'important' updates, rebooted and all seems well.
