Now, Now, my Dad is 87 and he can use Email, surf the web (mind you at times he ends up in odd places...)

Yeah, but we both know that is where he wanted to be really!

Well said. At least better than the way I said it as you beat me to the punch.

Are you sure they are odd or just odd to you? Hey, whatever floats your boat.
Actually mom is not great at web surfing. She will do some, but is scared she will do something wrong.

I set off for the canteen an hour ago and found myself in the gents.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Hey at least you weren't aiming for the gents and found yourself in the canteen, that behaviour is frowned upon!

Yes, but does he rename everything to have a DLL extension?

Don't we all end up in odd places at times.
Once you lose your pride the rest is easy.
I would agree with you but then we both would be wrong.

Of course this can happen, but it is not the common, not here at least...
Congrats for your dad!

A friends mother is about the same age, and she has a Kindle, a desktop, a laptop and a NAS.
But she still uses Microsoft Works...

The emphasis is on works.

Yeeeessss...but...she also owns two copies of Office (including the latest non-rental version) and can't find disk 5 of the Works set...
She also hates using her laptop because it has Win8 on it and that "just doesn't do anything"

She does pretty well for her age: she still drives, lives alone and cooks for herself, she even flies off across the world to see friends and family.
But... She still has a large collection of vhs tapes!

Now, now I am sure Griff will back me up, cats are intelligent beings (from another planet). They listen well then do their own thing.

A virus would never know your mother's name and her granddaughter's mother's email. Also, if it were a virus, why would it say greetings? It would have said, Welcome our 100000000th winner. Click following link and win a free virus!

As noted by Griff.
Several of these types have come to my inbox of late. Easily recognized for what they are - from someone you know but awkwardly impersonal.
Long ago, my Yahoo.com box was hacked and my small address book was put to use. Has happened to others I know (or, at least, know me), since.
It could even be via capture of a single piece of mail with a big TO and CC list.
And always the ubiquitous link for your clicking pleasure.
Some, I'm convinced, are to simply get eyes to a particular sight to earn hit (=money). Others, of course, are to detect and infect.
