That's a good one, I'm sure you'll see a spike in your reputation because of that post.

Also, decide if there were fatalities or not... "Fire kills dinosaur" ... "There were no reports of death".
I wonder what "complete damage" looks like, anyway?
Still, I suppose it's some consolation that it's not just our own media that are totally incompetent...

=== CONTEXT AND PREVIOUS APPROACHES ===
My public thanks here go out to any, each, all, and every human being who tried to provide any sort of useful advice here...
https://www.codeproject.com/Lounge.aspx?msg=5728092
The suggested approaches sort-of worked, in a sort-of manner.
I will estimate twenty to thirty total hours in fruitless attempts to do this via purely software screen capture.
They work on the small screen version, but totally crap out when DosBox goes Full Screen
I am now convinced that this goal does not have an immediately workable _Software_Only_ implementation
My Goal...
- On Windows 7, Run DosBox
- Go full Screen
- Execute various historical examples of software from that Era
- Record the screen, and my voice, while I am interacting with the software
- Save all that in a normal video file (AVI, MPEG, Whatever)
I want the screen recording to look the same as it does on my screen as I sit in front of it.
i.e.,
I want the viewer to see exactly what I see as I'm making the recording.
i.e.,
A pixel for pixel duplicate, at the same speed.
And....
All this recorded in an MPEG (or whatever) file that plays on a regular PC/Mac/Linux/whatever machine.
Am I going to have to build a special PC for this ?
I don't believe that this current Windows 7 PC has an HDMI plug, nor does the monitor.
As far as I can tell, the graphics card is made for one single monitor.
I welcome advice, suggestions, and directions from anyone who has done this or something similar in the past.
Thank you for reading these 276 words

This sound a lot like the gamers who stream / record their gameplay (screen) and themselves (webcam) on a smaller frame on the side.
Only that you record the other stuff instead of a game.
But I don't know which software do they exactly use.
What I suggested you back then in the other thread won't do it in such a resolution as you ask. If you set 24 frames / sec that will increase the memory needs a lot.
But if you manage to configure your monitor like that and you don't have that memory problem, it is still worth a try as it saves your monitor in a sort of WYSIWYG
M.D.V.
If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you
Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

I have an older version of this Movavi Screen Recorder 2021 Personal [PC Download] [^] and it is super easy to use and I believe it has the features you want and is only $39.95
Quote:
* Create screencasts,
*record Skype and Zoom chats,
*capture online video and audio
* Record screens, webcam, and microphone output separately or simultaneously
* Schedule your recordings and capture the screen even if you’re away
* Share screenshots via WhatsApp and Telegram, upload videos to Google Drive and YouTube
* Show keyboard actions and highlight cursor movements
Super inexpensive solution and I have had great success with it on Windows.

I've seen that my colleagues use Zoom for screen recording.
Start a new meeting (for just yourself), share your screen and record it. When you end the meeting it will create / convert the video (and audio). It does compress it, I'm not sure if you can change the settings for the output quality.

I use MS Expression Encoder, but with multiple monitors.
Run what I'm capturing on one monitor (full screen) and initiate / select from another.
I may have used it with one monitor, but probably in a windowed mode; can't see trying to communicate with it if "DOS" has control of the entire screen.

Hi All,
My work laptop out of the blue just re-started, no warning, no nothing. Windows 10 having done an update? Office 365 ill? time of month? It's just so annoying.
|
|
|

My first guess is that it was an important Windows 10 update (hold the snickers, I know ).
I would check your Windows 10 update log to confirm.
If not, then I would check your system event logs (errors, sys info, etc.).
After that, then I start Googling, TBH.

But, annoyingly, work insists that I have a Windows laptop. And, sadly, that is the position many businesses take. Adoption of Linux desktop machines, has nothing to do with it's capabilities. It's simply down to the huge investment that, pretty much, every business, (and public body), has made in the Microsoft stack.

My place still is Win7 for their VM's and desktops (when they supply them). So far, so good.
However - there's good news in that (nearly) everything has been moved to a private network and they all work through their browsers: O/S agnostic !
There are still a few applications out there (and amazingly, one they had me write last week) but it's a utility. Meanwhile, the few applications left are being moved to browsers.
So - it could be eased in with hardly anyone noticing.

Give me an X I choose my computer by the problems it can solve for me. That is the prime criterion - problem solving ability. Regardless of what kind of engine it uses to do the task.
If my current PC cannot solve a problem of mine, and I have to obtain new tools, the quality of those tools will affect my decision. I am talking about tools as I see them as a user, for solving my problems. Not tools for solving other problems than mine. And again: The engine driving those tools may be whatever.
When buying a new car, I considered electric models. None of them satisfied my needs for transportation. When I (10+ years ago) needed to upgrade my video editing equipment, I considered a Mac, based on its long-lasting reputation as the professional's choice. My investigation showed that it wouldn't satisfy my needs - the old, professional level tools had been replaced by amateur quality. In several rounds, I have investigated (read: Had operating) Linux machines to evaluate them as alternatives to my current tools. They have failed miserably. The engine inside may be OK, but the user level tools simply do not solve any of my problems that my current tools do not solve in better ways.
Maybe Linux is a good engine. But for me, it is not a good car. I prefer a great car, even if there may may be better engines out there.

Could it possibly be because it relates to where you find great user level tools?
