To make matters worse, the shelf wants you to pick it up, it wants its paperback.

They are independent. My guess is that quote is born of frustration with record companies who wanted to mould them.

dunno if it's a plan, but rock music generally requires [at least semi-] skilled artists, for example people that can actually play real instruments, and that means they expect to get paid; whereas the current rapping crap is simple even young and completely unskilled kids can do it.
- and as soon as there is any risk they look likely to develop some following the studio drops them gets another wannabe off the street.
so I'd say it's plain economics rather than any plan. (heck, developing a plan needs thought which takes too much energy, easier to just ditch any "artist" (yes that term very loosely used) that comes in asking for [more] money.)

Seen the Dregs a couple of times, Dave LaRue -> killer bass player, he has to be if he's going keep up with Steve Morse. Speaking of the Dregs, I think Andy West (another killer bassist) ended up working in IT if I'm not mistaken.

I like Andy West a lot. The last I heard of him he was teaching bass in the Bay Area.
The first time I heard the Dregs was on an old radio show called the King Biscuit Flower Hour and they broadcast a live show of the Dregs that was really good. I bought a couple of their albums the very next day.

I was using win10 calculator and something didn't add up to.
In History of calculations there is: 4 * 3 + 4 * 3 = 48
Immediately on google i have found a thread answers.microsoft.com with explanation on difference between standard and scientific mode. I can agree with how standard mode works, but it is not excuse to display it wrong in History!
And then answer from some guy that a lot of people don't know algebraic order of operations... This is so lame. Because of people who don't know even below basic rules of math, all others should be poisoned (yes, this is how politics work, but this is science)?
This is really insulting for anyone who knows how to count up to more then 10.

That's no reason to display nonsense. How about RPN[^]? The problem is that RPN is like pointers: Absolutely simple and many people just don't ever get it.
What's so hard about 4 3 * 4 + 3*?

Back when programmable calculaters were still a thing, it was only HP (as far as I know) who preferred to use a notation (RPN) that provided absolute clarity (as well as a history, if you need it at all). All others simply showed the keys in the order in which they were pushed, useful or not.
Looking back, I don't think it mattered. Calculators were only the first generation of brain pacemakers. Look at the modern, much more powerful pacemakers and how they are used. Everything is well as long as the heads of those zombies stay nicely hollow and empty. Who cares what nonsense you display as long as the zombies are happy and keep stroking their pacemaker and fill someone's pockets?
