I'm going to buy you a dictionary so you can look up the definition of that word!

Don't need it. You're the one who needs to stop assuming you know everything and know who and how everyone is. But then telling that to a narcissist like you is pointless.

They decided to have the Doctor be a woman before they even started to talk about who they wanted to play her.

And your proof for this is what? Do you have proof that they only interviewed women?

They purposefully set out to cast the new Doctor as a woman.

Would there have been this level of debate if they had set out to cast a man? I honestly don't see what the problem is with the Doctor being a woman. Shock, gasp, we have lady doctors in the real world so why not in a fictional world?

The character played isn't a Doctor, medical or otherwise, it's just a name or title. It means nothing.

Yes, there is always a big discussion that brings out negative comments.

It was in one of the news stories, forget which one. The show has a new producer who wanted to put his own spin on it and Peter Capaldi the current doctor apparently suggested it.

Surely they missed the shock factor by announcing it five months ahead of the regeneration. I know it's nigh on impossible to keep something like that secret these days but they could at least try.
I'm one of those old-school Whovians who thinks it's all been a bit downhill since Tom Baker hung up his scarf but the last series was the best Nu-Who for a good while and it's a great shame that Capaldi's not staying as he's been wonderful in the part. That said, though - in the immortal words of Freddie Mercury- the show must go on - and I certainly don't see anything wrong with The Doctor taking a female form.
Is going from a man to a woman really a bigger change than going from Bill Hartnell to Patrick Troughton or from Sylvester McCoy to Christopher Ecclestone? The show has always gone for pretty dramatic shifts between incarnations and this is just maintaining a 50-odd year-old tradition.

Via Paul McGann. He might only have appeared in one film (and one online-only anniversary special), and the main revelation of the film might have been totally ignored since then, but he's always counted on the list of regenerations.
And also via John Hurt, although we didn't know that at the time.

Indeed, fair play to Mr McGann - the movie may been lousy but he's done some fine work on the Big Finish audio adventures.

Funny that the people commenting on this don't seem to be fans of the show!
The Doctor is already a veteran of the Time War.

The problem isn't always the actors (I liked Tennant as the doctor), but the stories / writers.

Of course the writing concern applies to any story, but changes in actor and characterization between seasons is a uniquely Doctor Who issue (among the shows that I watch at any rate).

Okay, Baker wasn't very goo but Tennant, after Troughton, was the best Doctor. By far.
