Believe it or not I have a kind of super power: I've barely listened to any of his songs, at much 4 or 5 times in total and not complete.
There are really not much things that I care less about...
No hate, no love here.
Without knowing if that is the case (but given his age probably is) I don't like the idea of those groups that are created in labs: a group of boys and girls that are manufactured to be loved, neither those ones that come from TV shows... But again, in this case I can't say anything...

I think music stars get a lot of hate they don't deserve in order to balance out all the obsessive fan worship they don't deserve, either. It's nature's way of making sure being a celebrity isn't too easy.
I generally ignore both the haters and the worshipers if I can.

It's merely a continuation of what has gone on for generations, my parents hated the music I listened to, my grand-parents hated the music by parents listened to...etc. This person is the face of current pop music and therefore a fun and convenient target. Far be it from me to question human nature, let us old people have our fun.

I have great respect for anyone who can make a living in the entertainment industry, let alone carry home large truckloads of cash. I've never heard any of his music, so I can't speak to the quality of it. The general consensus seems to be that it's shallow tripe with no value. If that's true (and I know it must be because I read it on the Internet), I would think the greater concern would be not his art but rather the fact that millions of people like shallow tripe with no value. He's simply following the oldest rule in show biz: give the people what they want.
Of course, it's probably just the backlash from overexposure coupled with the mindset of "in order for what I like to be good, everything else must suck." Every generation goes through that, and most never get over it. When I played rock and roll in the 70s, I had a Disco Sucks t-shirt because I was young, arrogant, narrow minded, and hey, everyone else had one! These days I'm happy to like what I like and allow others to do the same. If I had it to do over again, the t-shirt I'd wear would be Mean People Suck. And no, I still can't dance.

Everybody loves him. Especially since he said he quits.
I have never heard his voice nor I want to. Although it's always fun to pick on him. I don't know why, it just is.

This is why I would be so happy if he'd retire from the business:
I wouldn't have the read every day about his latest "mistakes" he did, like doing drugs or visiting a certain establishment. I don't care about him at all.
In fact: I would be more than happy if everyone just stopped talking about him.
This involves people like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Michael Schuhmacher (nothing against him and I wish him all the best), etc. They are still just some random humans (true, maybe rich and famous) but they did nothing that really is of any importance to mankind (Yeah, I'm not really of any importance to mankind either, but you don't have to read about me in every newspaper around the world too). Sure, you can skip those article if you're not interested (which I do), but you'll still have read at least the headline and will already now "uuh... (s)he did that... well... that's great... now... why's that important again?"
In fact, in my opinion, news about those so called celebrities should be removed from all general newspapers and they should let those magazines dedicated to unimportant gossip cover the stories about them.

Then you will need to learn to be satisfied with one page newspaper where half the page is covered with name of the newspaper. May be less. I don't know how much is printed about other stories.

I completely agree with you.
Kids should not be given the platform to earn a fortune based on a dubious talent.
If we banned kids from being infamous then they would risk less from being ridiculed by a large population of the sane world.

It's not Bieber I hate, it's the mindless entertainment garbage that is being marketed by an industry driven by greed and consumed by a soulless society that his hellbent on an ever escalating need for over-stimulation. Our world is insane because the people who make up the world are insane.
And besides from sounding like some foofoo new-age anti-post-modern culture fanatic myself, I'm actually quite serious.

That's what I tell people who complain about politicians and how screwed up the country is. People are screwed up by nature. If you have a government of the people, by the people and for the people, by definition you've pretty much guaranteed that you'll have a screwed up government.

Exactly. It's the people that don't run for office that I would actually vote for.

Quote: There are some large threads on the forum recently hating on Justin Bieber.
Did I miss something? I consider myself well read in this forum and don't think I've seen any Bieber-bashing...
People who put themselves in the public spotlight need to develop a thick skin, somebody is going to hate even the most loved public figures. If it hurts you that people pick on him there are therapists who can help with that.
The reason I wouldn't invite him to Thanksgiving dinner is his disrespect for other countries[^], and a feeling of entitlement[^] that he is above what people find socially acceptable[^].
I guess he's just another victim of affluenza[^], poor kid[^], he's going to have a tough life when his acting career fails...

I pick on Justin Bieber because he is rich and famous and that is what us normals do. Make fun of celebrities. To be honest, and this is why there is a judicial distinction, making fun of a celebrity is not the same thing as making fun of a person. It gives us a safe vent. Besides, I secretly like the biebs; if I were ever to invade a small country and needed physiological warfare I would just play his songs on repeat.

Never listened to his stuff but the media headlines about his "troubles" combined with the photos that make him look... ummmm... less than intelligent certainly give me a negative perception.
All that being said... I agree with other posters: I don't care a bit about celebrities (Lohan, Kardashian, etc...) therefore there can be no "hate".

It is not particularly him, or his music making me upset.
It is the fact that he (and whole bunch of todays "musicians", "artist" or whatever they should be called) think that they can do everything they want just because they got a lot of money. I can forgive teenagers throwing eggs at someones house, but this is definately something a 20 year old isn't supposed to do. The same goes for spraying a wall because the nearby restaurant didn't give him "any crayons while waiting for dinner". And if someone like that (Goes for all the pricks, not only Bieber) becomes someone teenagers look up to I am not wondering why todays teenagers became what they are today.
Bruce Springsteen came from a working ghetto, made it to the top but was never involved in a scandal (apart from the divorce from his 1st wife). The same goes for The Gaslight Anthem, Bryan Adams and many more. Don't tell me that it is hard to live a reasonable lifestyle.
