If you google "web sms service" (optionally add "free") you will see a long list of services to choose from ... if they are available in your area.
You say nothing about the SMS volume you will be generating. Some of the free services put a celing on the number of message per month; that may be limiting to you. Generally, the free services are one-way: The web interface will not allow the mobile phone user to return an SMS reply to your PC. (Well, maybe some services do provide that option - if you need it, make sure that is is offered.)

Is it bad that the only prize I ever want to win is an Ig Nobel?

No, it is a great attitude!
Remember that although the idea of IgNobel is to present science and research that initially make you smile/laugh, it should also make you think, in the direction of "maybe there is something to it..." (that is not from any official declaration, but my understanding of it). "Research" that is nothing but a joke will never make it to IgNobel.
This DKE-19-paper is certainly in the style of IgNobel!

Funny ... thanks for bringing this up. Trying not to get contaminated in my surroundings ...
Cheers,

I don't understand the question.

DK effect is:
1. a tendency (cognitive bias) of those with less knowledge of a domain to over-estimate their knowledge.
2. a tendency of those with more knowledge of a domain to under-estimate their knowledge, based on an assumption that others have as much knowledge as they do.
Quote: "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."

Did You Know?
Cats spend more than two-thirds of their lives asleep; as kittens, they sleep an average of eighteen hours a day and as adults, they sleep an average of sixteen hours a day.
I know that it is true. I read it on the Internet.
If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

I'd heard that about lions but didn't realize cats were about as extreme.
|
|
|
|
|
It is also true that they are hyper-active during their waking hours. Our 2-month old kitten is never stationary, except while asleep.

This is why our cat is named Dij: it's short for "Digital" because as a kitten he was either ON1 or OFF2; there was nothing in between.
1 - And doing a Wall of Death round the room
2 - And you could have pulled all his fur out hair by hair and he wouldn't wake up

You're saying you're pronouncing it "dig it all"??

This is one of those videos showing people who are not dancing to the music being played, isn't it?
Still, I know exactly what you mean by not being able to look away...

You are in a heap of trouble here! Or is it on the stack? Not sure, I'll check on the QA.

You know that Internet loves cat videos.
So you should set up a video camera to capture the kicking. The net would love it.

I did not mean "kick" literally. Since no cats ever enter our house, it has never been necessary to actually get rid of any cat.
