Often attributed to Albert Einstein
Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.
This is really the truth of measuring your value. You can't really tell, because things that are infinitely important may not be counted at all. Other things that the market deems important may be measured and you have none of it.

Well, maybe seeing ca. 20K hits/day on the web pages (all web applications that are used to do company business) and hundreds of users spending their time staring at my screens puts the work at some definite value. That it's totally adaptable to new company "brain storms"*
With so many people dependent upon it, it must be worth something.
* Programmers Prayer:
"Oh Great Deity, spare me from managerial brain-storms this day.
Pour out thy wrath upon these misbegotten throwbacks
That the creation (of code) are not debased by their whims."
Ravings en masse^ |

Remember not against us the technical debt of our predecessors;
let Thy compassions speedily come to meet us; for we are brought very low.

I was wondering - would these prayers work better if a department has ten or more programmers?

AS SOON AS YOU TOLD ME IT WAS FLAKY IT STOPPED RUNNING MY CUSTOM TOOLS!
You know who you are.
You owe me all of this virgin blood i have to spill to get the thing working again.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some dark arts to perform.
When I was growin' up, I was the smartest kid I knew. Maybe that was just because I didn't know that many kids. All I know is now I feel the opposite.

Personally, I find that sacrificing an MSCE works better. It has the advantage that while someone may actually miss the virgins, no one will miss the MSCE.

I've almost wanted to after the hell i got from VS2017 tonight. I've practically given up writing syntax highlighting into my newt VS integration. The VSIX projects are just godawful. I'd deal with that, but they don't even work!
