Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I use the Bose QC35s. The company supplied them when they moved us all into a large open office environment.
They work wonderfully.

That's a pretty generous company (even if they did move you into an open plan office).

That's got to be some kind of record in the IT game!

I only spent about 5 years in IT here. The first 5 and last 23 have been engineering.

I have and like these -- UltraPhones – High Isolation Studio Headphones (29db)[^]
The passive noise cancellation is better than any active NC I've ever heard, and doesn't require me to turn the music up loud to drown out anything.
Only problem I have with them, is that I can't hear the building fire alarm if I have the music turned up even a little bit.

Did I read it correctly - they weigh 3lb!
I got rid of a pair of Kiptch, they gave me a headache because they were so heavy and they were a dammed sight less than 1.5kg!

They are excellent. 2nd month I stocked the phone with my own music.
The Bose seem to eliminate about 90% of the office chatter without requiring really loud rock to drown it out.

This may be a crazy suggestion depending on your office environment, but maybe you could ask your company to pay for them. If they are genuinely increasing your productivity (distractions, mental health), it's probably an investment that would pay for itself quickly.

It's taken about 5 years even to convince them that they're a useful thing and I feel the agreement to let me use them is a somewhat reluctant one.
It all goes back to a couple of idiots long before my time who rather took the proverbial with their use of headphones and the politics have become rather entrenched over the years.

I have an older pair of Bose, they work quite well.
Don't think of them as an office accessory only. Very useful on plane flights. I'm sure there are a number of other uses.

I'm using a QC15 and people have to shake my chair to get my attention when I have them on.

I wear these most every day:
COWIN E7 Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones
~ 60-70 through AMAZON.
I also stream "brown noise" through an app called AMBIO, to help focus and drown out more sound.
This is the only way I can concentrate on coding in my office.
People who drop in the office also see the headphones on and tend to turn and come back later.

I've been using the Bose QuietComfort 20i Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones for the last 6 months for the same reason. Better noise canceling than the over ear QC15s I use at home, in-ear so they aren't obtrusive, very comfortable even after wearing for hours at a time, the battery lasts a long time and I think the sound is great. I hesitated because of the price but I've been very happy with the quality and service from Bose. An added bonus is that they stay in my ears very well when I'm working out or working in the yard. T
You don't want to be wearing them when the car door closes! The way the headphones work with the sudden pressure increase is rather unpleasant!

Really? Is that something that would be even more marked with 'planes and railway tunnels?

Hi All,
I have been trying to book a day off, since I got in at 08:30. First ask Boss reply fine just stick it through MyHR web system. Oh the pain and horror, I tend to use Chrome, the web page won't work properly in Chrome, Firefox, Edge or any web explorer apart from Internet Explorer. In the last wave of PC's we lost IE due to security flaws and went to Win 10. Tried to download Internet Exploder and all Heck was unleashed as I am trying to use Unsafe software...

So now they are going to throw the book at you?

Try this: IE Tab - Chrome Web Store[^] - it allows you to open a link in IE within Chrome. Works on everything I've tried so far...

Did you really lose IE or do you think you did because you're using Win10? If it's the latter, iexplore.exe may still be available - it's a hidden app because MS want you to use Edge. Just type iexplore to see if it's still installed.

I will try that. I'm just concerned that the 'help' only know how to use IE...
