I think you may have a typo in your operating system and have therefore accidentally enabled "cat prefetch" (not Cache prefetching)[^]

As if cats would pay any attention to settings in some operating system. They used to be deities and still do not like any interference.

Old and tired - I should have discussed with my boss for a pay raise today and he postponed to next week
Of course given the precedents it's possible that the raise even if accepted will arrive in 6-18 months. If I won't get any clear answer or if the answer is niet I'll be sending out curriculums - frankly I'm sick and tired of working as a software engineer with 5 years of experience in this company for 8€/hour.

8€ net from income taxes (10.5 € gross) but not for service taxes. My cost of living is "small" thanks to accurate management and parents help (my car is inherited from my granddad or I coulnd't afford one, maintenance is done my my father who's a mechanic or I couldn't afford it).
My low rent is pure luck as it's less than single rooms in deaying buildings amidst lowlife despite being a spacious apartment in the countryside - it's almost completely offset of course by the high cost of commuting.
Of 16k € I earn each year at least 13k go for day-to-day living, excluding new taxes, government surprises, accidents and sudden diseases. Keep in mind that I'm counting 2 people as I live with my not economically independent girlfriend (not married because we wish to have at least a decent ceremony but we have no money for that). I'd probbably spend a bit more but my mother gets lunch tickets at work and gives me a share of them, my trusted grocery store accepts them - it goes for other 500-700 € / year saved.

In fact I'm preparing my CV. If I can raise the pay to at least 12.5 (consider that earning more than 25€/h gross is extremely hard in Italy and usually it happens at 50+ years) then then I can evaluate to stay - contrary to many other companies in my country this one pays each month regularly, is economically well managed so it won't go bust with a short notice and it's extremely stable financially, plus it's not ionvolved in any political/mafia corruption scheme.
It also doesn't lay off people if not for extreme reasons (espionage, stealing from the company, assaulting other employees) so I know I'll have a solid financial base for the future, even if not particularly rich. Still, 8€/hour is not enough, not anymore.

True enough that there is a common idiomatic expression: "fare l'americano" ["behaving like an American"] means living spending a lot of money (new cars, long exotci vacations, often at restaurants...).
It arrives directly from World Wars when US soldiers on leave and the contingents that remained for dome years after the end of the wars were spending a lot of money while our people were in complete poverty - many people, epsecially in southern regions, hadn't running water in houses until 1970s!

Italians who live abroad for a while are always jarred when they return. Either they go straight into 3rd world countries or they face great trouble readapting to failing services and ridiculous wages - often unattainable since we have unemployemnt for OVERQUALIFICATION... idiocy.
One thing I enjoy of Italy is the relaxed way of living - I know that London is frenetic for everyone but I find frenetic Turin, which is nothing compared to Rome or Milan which are nothing compared to London so I think I'd be a very sorry axe in more civilizwed countries... in fact I stay in the countryside and work in the city, for the less stressful life.
I'd love moving in places like Texas or Tennessee... there is a lot of space and nature, sparse population with still big central cities and permissive gun regulations - something I miss in Italy and will miss ever more since almost everyone is trying to reduce gun rights in any way despite having a negligible ratio of gun related crimes, and 98,4% of them (real statistic) are executed with illegally imported (or sold by crooked police operators, which is sadly the norm here) weapons.

Don't take any sass from them what sez today isn't an odd day.
That's not what you said. you said "It's been an odd day", not "It's an odd day", which means that, as far as I an reckon, it's been an odd day as recently as yesterday.
What in the world is their problem?
