Does anyone know of a genuinely qualified consulting company in the US which can come into a company and offer an unbiased, valid opinion on code, processes and employees? I'm not talking about a company intent on taking over the code, they would clearly be biased, but rather a company that can give a no-BS assessment.

Yes, but they don't come cheap. Accenture, McKinsey, Deloitte and IBM are well respected. I don't know how unbiased IBM will be, but that's just an uneducated guess.

The predecessor of Accenture, Arthur Andersen & Company, had a good trick.
They would tell the client that they need a new IT Manager, put in one of their IT Consulting managers whom they know they will never promote to partner in that slot, and would milk the client for all he is worth.

I take it you are in the company you want checked?
If so why cant you do this yourself? There are various metrics for code and processes, and hence the employees abilities at all levels. CRM, ISO etc

I manage a bunch of websites (volunteer work) and for a district level organization. It's totally hand crafted (html/css/php/javascript). I was informed, somewhat politely, that it looks "old fashioned" and I should use a modern look, like those in WordPress.
So my site would should look like everyone else's. That's not going to happen.
It must be a generational thing.

I was Shanghaied into governing a chunk of Geocities, back in the day. I spent far too much of my time explaining to far too many people that a black background, unstoppable boring music, and a stupid, sparkley cursor didn't in any way make up for a lack of content.

It is good to focus on content like every f***ing book ever looks the same.
For artistic sites and promoting the product and things like that they can use the unique design.
