Hi Nish-ji,
Interesting indeed: "We are bringing the core relational database capabilities to preview today, and are targeting availability in mid-2017."
Would it be a mistake, do you think, to regard this announcement as aimed at "mind-share" gathering, or preemption of some other whatever(s) ? Is the next step for Microsoft to acquire Uber just to obtain the IP rights to the name, while throwing drivers and riders under the same bus that the Nokia employees went under ?
And, the pricing model ? Would such glory descend from the heights of: [^] to a level that a mere mortal like moi could afford a stale crust of it ?

I don't really know what to expect, but this aligns well with their recent approaches (example : .NET core runs on Linux and Mac).

Well it was silly of them to try to ignore the huge Linux server market share.

Will the licensing remain the same I wonder ?

I believe the main reason for this venture is to sell more licenses, and the SQL licensing per CPU is the very same as MySQL sockets...so people should be familiar with...

Do you know if the express versions will be available ?

It is hard to say...Basically the code base for all SQL editions is the same, so I can't see reason why not, but all the talking for now is only about enterprise usage...so my guess is not...

Can I run it on my Raspberry Pi?

If you have one of the new ones it might run but the footprint would be an issue I think
