I have survived for many, many years without knowing if McVomits or KFC are open or closed: one extra day is not going to discomfit me in the least.

My last McVisit was in Vegas, April 1999. I took one bite of, I think, a cheeseburger, retched and binned it. Haven't been back [Vegas or McD's] since and I'm happy with that state of affairs.

In Hungariaorszag, almost everything is closed on Sundays and Public Holidays. Unfortunately due to some weird interpretation of the definition for a restaurant, McD and KFC seem to open.

During a part of my life I don't look back on too fondly, I lived in an accursed state called West Virginia (not Virginia). At that time they had what were called "Blue Laws" - which, in a nutshell, were legally enforcing Sunday as the day of rest for all because the Christians insisted it be so. Businesses had to be closed.
Now, to your point:
Businesses had to be closed, but that didn't include restaurants, food stores and laundromats. For you see, when these people left church on their day for rest they may have wanted to have a Bar-BQ or picnic afterwards. Or do their laundry for work the following day.
So - the day of rest didn't apply to those places . . . those workers . . . much as you noticed. Because those that make the rules don't want to inconvenience themselves.
After I had been there a couple of years each county, with few exceptions, voted to remove said laws. I'd like to take credit for it but am too modest.

Probably because nothing would be able to open, ever. 
And what about old-folks homes? Hospitals? Fire services?
Eventually, there would have to be world-wide restrictions on when you could have sexual relations, so that children are born only on alternate days (even days of the month only, perhaps) so that shops could open on the other ones, and civilization wouldn't collapse because nobody could buy food.
Of course, first we would have to have a wave of purges of anyone born on a odd-numbered day - which might not prove popular...

Actually, I agree.
Humans are a social species - our strength only shows it self when working as a commune(ity).
My observation is that employers would exploit their workers to any degree they can get away with if not stopped by laws (or unions).
My observation is that employees would like to not work at all for more money then they already are getting.
Admittedly, there are some of us who do what we do because we enjoy it - and they pay us - but most people don't like what they're doing. The power of Unions - that protected workers - protected them out of their jobs in many (former) US Industrial areas (such as Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and steel making, NY city garment district, Southern USA furniture manufacture, etc.)
Somewhere is the proper balance. It needs to be designed by good people and adopted by good people. I'm not holding my breath.
