I'm running 2 large external monitors and keep the laptop closed, as every time I open it, the screen layout gets frelled. Good multi-monitor support is a real benefit for me.

Just do it then. Such a relief from this annoyance

It is possible for this to work properly on Win 10
2 screens and a PC set to sleep after 5 mins. Every time it wakes up I login and all windows are where I left them.
using a local non admin account
I don't recall having to do anything special to achieve this

Never worked for me, specially if the monitor screens also turn off. Also, if you unplug the laptop from the monitors (like when going for a meeting), then coming back, the windows also come back to the original positions.

Windows 11 has more adverts?
MS needs more early adopters to iron out the bugs?
Now that you have finally figured out where everything is in Windows 10, you miss the hours trying to find things that they have (re)moved for no obvious reason.
You are tired of the same Windows 10 logo day after day.
If you think your computer is running smoothly now then you should definitely try Windows 11, it will help point out all the bits that need upgrading (RAM, CPU, GPU, Storage etc).

Pros:
- Settings app has been better filled-out: I rarely need to go find the old control panel and the new stuff works well
- Win11 is noticeably snappier on the same hardware
- new windows management - snapping windows to thirds or quarters or edges - and easily accessible from the "maximise" window button
- better multi-monitor support (docking/undocking should restore windows to their prior positions; it feels like they did "different scaling on monitors" better - I've been leaving my laptop with the higher resolution (1440p) than my desktop monitors (1080p) and 150% scaling, and moving apps between screens works better - I don't have oddnesses as much any more.
- improved Task Manager (personally, I'm used to Process Explorer, but I should try the new interface as a daily driver)
- claims of better power management should make your laptop battery last a little longer
- omg round corners on windows!
- moar animations (most are subtle enough not to be immediately noticeable though)
Cons:
- you best be liking your taskbar on the bottom
- consolidated network/sound/power button in the tray area takes some getting used to - I'm not entirely convinced that it's worse but I'm not entirely convinced that it isn't
- moar animations (animations may be bothersome to some people - but there are settings to reduce UI animation)
overall, I prefer win11 over win10, but mostly because it feels a lot faster, on the same hardware

Yeah, those rounded corners are such a selling feature, especially to tech people!
As mentioned above, multi-monitor support is worth while.
Do 3rd party Start Menu replacements work? I used Open-Shell (now Classic-Shell) and need to check if it's been updated for Win11.

I've heard that Start11 works, but, tbh, I hardly ever use the start menu - if you have a nice launcher like FlowLauncher, there's rarely ever a need for the Start Menu, and I can get to what I want quicker

The benefits are fully on Microsoft's side:
- preparing the full "as a Service" approach with yearly payments aka revenue with "digital license".
- preparing for third party apps by getting user data.
The support is as bad as it was in the past.
Its no longer a professional OS that can be used to handle businesses.

What I find as a real CRIME is that in 3 years my Lenovo P50 workstation class computer will not have a supported OS
I has a 6th generation i7 processor, 32GB Ram, 2 512GB SSDs, and a 4k display. What is to become of such a capable PC ??
I have windows 10 running on an old intel motherboard with a series 4 chipset with dual Core uP, 256GB SSD, 8GB ram, intel IGP driving a 1680 x 1050 monitor and it runs pretty well.
Window 11 just can be that good or that needed to trash all the capable PC out there. Total BS!

Literally nothing. In fact its just slower for me.
I'm considering going back to Win10 because of performance issues with File Explorer etc.

Windows 11 uses Intel 12th generation E-cores effectively.
Basically, if you want a lot of bang for your buck, you can run Windows 11 on an i5 12600K and load it to the brim with cheap DDR4 memory for a very cheap and very powerful server.
Other than doing that, I don't see the point of picking Windows 11 over Windows 10.

Some time ago (2019-2020?), someone posted a message and used a really cool tool to do a screen capture or a video of a screen capture or something... How's that for a vague description?
I commented on it, but maybe my cp-google-fu is lacking.
Any ideas?

I use WINKEY+SHIFT+S to do screen captures - is that what you meant?

No, I know about that (and the latest Win10 update broke this hot keys btw) - this was much more sophisticated and was its own utility program. I know it's in here somewhere

They must be nitpicky when adding new features.
