Regrettably, in his own words:
"After falling out with his keyboard he now talks to his computer. Occasionally, these days, it answers back."
He now dictates his books either into his computer or to his assistant, but since he can't read the screen(s) any more, his assistant has to read them back to him at the end of the day. This understandably slows his writing...

He is my favourite author eva.
When I was :cough:, my then girlfriend asked me to get her a book as I worked near to a bookstore, it was Equal Rites and she carefully explained the spelling. I bought it and read it straight through that evening. When I gave it to her, oh err misses, she told me I should have read the others first.
So, I went out and bought them all. Every last bugger of them. Raising Steam is waiting to be read, dear daughter bought it for me for my next birthday so I must wait until the summer.

The only person I know that can produce written Slapstick (see Moving Pictures).
I literally fell out of bed laughing reading "Guards!, Guards!"
Also, his use of footnotes is amazing.

Before, when I unplugged the AC charger for my laptop Windows would automatically do theme related things like disable transparency etc. but now when I unplug it, it stays the same theme as before 
Anyone know how to fix this? I've tried resetting the theme in the "Personalize" section of the Control Panel.

It's the default action on Windows 7, which is why I'm trying to turn it back on. Something must have happened to turn it off, and it's had a noticeable effect on battery life

Check Control Panel > Power Options > Choose when to turn off display (Edit Plan Settings) > Change advanced power settings.
This may be what you are looking for.

Either disable the battery hogging eye-candy permanently or don't unplug it. Ever.
Seriously, after trying unsuccessfully to make my home machine sleep, I've pretty much given up on power-related woes.
Have you looked at powercfg (command line) and its zillion options? There may be some hope there but personally I think reinstalling the OS will be faster.
