It is about 500m North, or 500m South, depending on which ones you want to go to.
Think I'm heading to La Cigale Skyview[^] tonight with one of the other new starts that is in the apartment next door.

I use Chrome, and FlashBlock[^] was brilliant fro years (still is).
But I added Stop YouTube HTML5 Autoplay[^] last year sometime, and that gets pretty much all the rest.

It's a joy to see that little Play button in the advertising blocks of wankers.
I've got YouTube Center(sic)[^] for all things YouTuberish (pretty much literally "all things").

Some of the features of that are ... um ... slightly at odds with YouTube T&C's (which don't allow d/l) - hence the "taken down by Google" from the Play store.
"5.1 L you agree not to access Content or any reason other than your personal, non-commercial use solely as intended through and permitted by the normal functionality of the Service, and solely for Streaming. "Streaming" means a contemporaneous digital transmission of the material by YouTube via the Internet to a user operated Internet enabled device in such a manner that the data is intended for real-time viewing and not intended to be downloaded (either permanently or temporarily), copied, stored, or redistributed by the user."

But I'm sure that's an oversight on the creator's part, and as long as we both avoid those features...I'll give it a try later.

If it's youtube you're referring to it can be shut off. But yes, it's another nail in the coffin AFAIC.

I'm pissed at numerous news sites that do this
I would much rather read the story than see some crap video with an equally crappy talking head telling me f'all.
However, it seems that the attention span of the planet is rapidly declining so I am destined to become an increasingly grumpy old man...

Well I stopped playing find-the-autoplay-video-tab after installing extensions in chrome that block HTML5 and flash videos from auto playing. Now I have a different problem. Whenever I open a video on youtube I am prepared to stop it, but end up playing it instead

I just haven't updated my Flash and now Firefox blocks it by default.
I'm sure its not supposed to discourage updating though...

Dear @daveauld is, as I type, at Aberdeen airport running away from the beautiful weather of this sceptered isle to the boring sunshine of the gulf.
So, lets talk about him behind his back...

I'm rather worried. Has he seen the sun before? Perhaps he is allergic to it?

Strong words coming from Norway.
The British isles are rather sunny by comparison.

OT slightly, Dave is from far enough North that twilight is enough to see by at night. It'nearly true here (55° north) - Aberdeen is closer to 60°. Clickety[^]
Unfortunately, in Aberdeen it is raining.
