Yeah, as I said I think there was a batch of bad switches (used for buttons in mouse devices) which were used in a big span of products, because there are many others who've mentioned this issue too.
I had bought a brand new logitech (portable/wireless) (logitech trackball m570[^]) that I had only used rarely with my other laptop and only used it at home (didn't get lugged around and banged around) but the buttons lasted less than one year. I would take it apart and clean it and it would work for 1 week then stop clicking unless I clicked it twice or slapped it hard.
I was afraid but I bought another of the exact ones again but this time I made sure I bought it at a local store (Target) and I've been using this one for over 2 years now and it still works great.
(I'm on my laptop now and using it.)
Also, it is possible that buying some items online actually gets us consumers pointed to "exact" counterfeit products -- listed as logitech but is some other company churning out garbage. I always wonder about that.

I am a software dev / "engineer" so I do not understand jokes, so I will now answer this question seriously.
I use trackballs and my balls stay clean so I can happily report that my balls have lasted for a very long time.

That's cool. I might've been in those discussions. I sure eat mice. But I bet I use them enough that UL could rent me as durability test equipment.

Recently, I may have replaced the need for licensing a bit of software with DIY/FOSS because it just didn't make sense to me the cost for what it does.
This guy builds a mouse because the manufacturers seem to suck.
AI is supposed to empower people to do things.
Maybe a silver lining is that quality:price improves because it must?
A competitor can chatgpt+yt how to manufacture mice and probably start to put you out of business almost literally overnight.

So I need VS2015. I have a project using it on a secure server, and I need to replicate the dev environment. I do my search, I login, I get to the "Your Downloads and Product Keys". It shows me this:
"Visual Studio Community 2015 Not available 6/27/2016"
If it's not available, why prick tease me? And this is the company assuring me that all of the updates they push out are for security. Right.... then I get an ad "inclusion is innovation." Well that's useful - not.
Wow, so, I despise edge. Trying to download opera - the file gets dumped to "operasetup.exe isn't commonly downloaded..." and edge renames it to something bogus. I have to rename it to a .exe to get it to install. What drivel.

The download PDF option does work either, downloads a 0 byte htm.

this does not look broken, it looks by design. Edge specifically indicates "not usually downloaded". It's just so trite.

The one they got me with awhile back was having a version of .NET shown on a prominent page as required.
It did not exist.

Got a RC2014 system kit a while back but had problems getting it to work. The EPROM that came with the kit was programmed by the seller but for some reason, either; he sent the wrong chip or the chip he sent wasn't set up for the combination of boards I picked.
At any rate ordered some new UV EPROM's and programmed with the correct monitor program and voila have a system running CP/M 2.2.
So have been playing withe Z80 assembler, wow does that bring back memories.
The system uses a CF card as the disk system and somewhere along the line Turbo Pascal 3.0 appeared on it?
Haven't programmed in Pascal since early college days, circa 79. Surprisingly it's coming back pretty quick and am able to program some elementary stuff right off.
The hardest part is navigating in the editor, you get so used to using arrow keys to move around that I am constantly hitting the arrow keys instead of the control keys that do the actual navigation.
Anyway fun stuff and looking forward to future adventures.
If you can't find time to do it right the first time, how are you going to find time to do it again?
