That is actually a cool feature!
When I have to weigh something I usually weigh it with my pan, saves me some dishes.
So first I have to cook 100 g of rice (weighed with pan), but then I have to add 50 g of another ingredient and how am I going to weigh that without making something dirty to weigh it in?
I could weigh the pan again, but at that point it would melt my scale.
Weighing directly in the pan would solve all my weighing problems (really, not being sarcastic here)! 
Other than that it seems this pan is pretty stupid, I mean backlight for a "pleasant visual appeal"? 
Anyway, not "smart", just "connected" (apparently)...

My wife cooks some amazing things...but doesn't write down what she used, or how much, so nothing is really repeatable, no matter how much I liked it.
So...this might not be a complete waste.

another fascinating thing I find with all this iot is that it nearly always comes with a social media angle.
Dealing with businesses these days biggest worry is our privacy, but when it comes to social media including a shitload of iot let's show the world almost every aspect of our personal life.
Everything done and used in the [once was] privacy of our homes is being put out there.
Yeah I know it's different information, how much money vs what I own, street address vs what my house looks like (inside and out), my medical condition compared to what I often/never eat/drink ...
details private, clues aplenty.
JUST WHAT MARKETING ALWAYS WANTED
1 sure in the old days they always wanted to know how much disposable income you have,
and from that they would try and guess
2 what you spend that money on,
3 what is your "quality" target (i.e. do you buy Ikea or custom made furniture), hotel or B&B,
4 when, where, how you buy, how much do you buy, how much do you use ...
...
In the old days they would use #1 to "guess" 2, 3, 4 ...
now with social media they have 2, 3 and 4 handed to them on a platter
- it's exactly the info they always wanted - they know exactly how to target you.
- and it's also a hell of a lot easier to calculate #1 given 2, 3 and 4 than the other way around.
so really, apart from things like actual credit card numbers really what does "privacy" mean when we tell organisations not to share our info but we let our devices do it?

It's obviously vitally important that everyone on twitter knows what you're eating, and a pan that takes a picture and auto-tweets it will save you a lot of work.

as an added bonus, it will analyze you the condition of your health for you. You will probably have to pay for the option for it to tell you what it is but it will phone home with the info regardless.

I just discovered that a past programmer (circa 2014) thought it would be a good idea to combine the existing jquery and Kendo-UI javascript into a single.min file. The reasons are lost to the sands of time, but the end result is that we are now stuck in 2014, and the web site is so huge that we can't just break these files apart, change all the references throughout the code, and expect sh*t to keep working. The testing effort alone would require multiple MONTHS of time.
And to think people here were cautioning me against a total rewrite...
