They don't like it when you say "How did you come in on this number? The traceback says you are in India."

What I find interesting about all of these scammer calls is that they are still obviously making enough money (or whatever) to make it worth their while....still.

Wages in India for scammers reading from a cheat sheet are very low: the minimum wage in India is Rs 160 per day - about £1.80, or $2.50 - so a successful scam that raises more than a tenner has paid for the "worker" for the week.
That's assuming they even pay minimum wage: given that what they do is illegal, immoral, and the act of scum I doubt they pay even that much.

It is a sad state. When I read the thread topic on the CP home page, I thought to ask you if they had an Indian accent. I was pretty sure the answer would be yes before I came to the thread.

In my experience, they are not always female. I'd say it is about 50:50 nowadays.

I get a conversation started just enough so I can explain to them that "in all sincerity, I must tell you that the world would be a better place if you would just die" - I enlarge upon this, immediately, that they spend their time trying to hurt and cheat people - so the world would be a better place without them.
Most are used to profanity and such - the above, however, seems to do an excellent job.
. . . And it's accurate, too.

Yeah, well, it's not all so black and white.
Whereas I certainly don't think it okay to indulge in fraudous behaviour and try to trick your fellow human beings, I must say that I find that a quite harsh attitude towards a poor person that has no other alternative than to do whatever it takes to support himself and his family.
If someone should be blamed, it's the unscrupulous company owner (who more than likely pockets most of the money himself).

That's pretty much what I think too. I was in town the other day when someone robbed my wallet. I said to The Big Issue seller I was speaking to at the time that it's terrible that some people have no option but to resort to such activities to support themselves.

By and large, I'm extremely liberal - but making excuses for people who rob others is well past where I'd go.
You assume desperation? I assume greed. And, if they robbed you, they even threatened you well being or life. If you want to be a martyr as atonement for their "misguided" way of life - that's your choice. I'm sure your great understanding will go far in consoling the families of kids killed for their sneakers . . . and the killers weren't barefoot.

...that person/group will be in another country, so even if the call traced back to the center:
- it's just a call center that has been given a job to do - a script, and possibly a form to fill
- not understanding the details the call center does not know if it's right or wrong. (true or no it's a defence they can and do use.)

There are all sorts of telemarketers - but when you get on the phone and deliberately lie to people you don't know, you absolutely know your trying to cheat them out of their money.
You ought, perhaps, direct your sympathy to their victims - especially those who's computers are held hostage and/or identities stolen (and all their money, with it).
