Well...MS has a number of management tools/consoles that'll install on any client OS, to manage stuff that only runs on a server OS. The entire System Center suite comes to mind (Operations Manager, Configuration Manager, Data Protection Manager, Virtual Machine Manager, etc). OTOH the trend these days is to implement the management console in a browser, so it'll run everywhere.

If Visual Studio 6 can be installed (and used) on Windows 7, I'm curious why such a newer piece of software would not be able to.

Because MS wrote the installer to disallow it. As someone else also mentioned, there are most likely runtime checks as well.

I remember the glider flights (sailplane) when I was young. If you did not land at the intended location, there was an investigation and that even if I was traveling alone without a passenger ...

Well, there was one malfunction of glider in India and poor pilot, only 22, died. Passenger was safe though. They were recording the flight so one can actually see all that happened.

It's good to know what failed so an additional check can be added. I am no expert in this field but if someone is and can figure it out, it will help someone in future.

I tried that once, many years ago before tandem was available, ended up 3 metres up a tree, I think I was lucky.
Why did the pilot not try and land immediately instead of completing the course.
