Ok, so you might have other reasons for glowing in the dark.  CRTs are the least of your problems.

Roughly the same amount of time it took for LED TVs? Not sure if this is a trick question. They both appeared at roughly the same time (give or take less than half a decade)[*]. Plasma has now all but disappeared.
[*] I'm talking about making it to mainstream, that is.

Can we agree that it took another 25 years until we finally got to see the first flat screens of any sort? CRTs held themselves decades after vacuum tubes had disappeared into the museums. How long would it have to be to make you raise an eyebrow? Since 1873? And who cares that we have invented 1000 other approaches since then?

Sorry, I must've dropped the plot somewhere. Yeah, CRT held on for absolutely forever. Then there's been a quick succession of contenders for replacements. I'm not really seeing anything unusual. The pace of progress (if you want to call it that) is quicker now for consumer electronics than it's ever been.

I was annoyed when we switched from CRT's to flat panels on our products. I kept trying to convince one of the hardware guys to give me a way to connect the CRT's high-voltage supply directly to the keyboard, under software control.
User-friendly my ass. I wanted user-lethal.

Just did a "power fail" test on my UPS (to check the duration with the third monitor added) and ... it doesn't switch at all. So my UPS is currently acting like a line conditioner and space heater. 
OK, where's the stupid manual gone ...

Mine still works, thank god but it stopped communicating via USB with the PC a couple of months ago.
Used to have a nice little widget that displayed wattage or whatever you wanted to display.

Sadly, I've opened the box and checked the battery voltage and that's just fine and dandy - solid at 38V, just as I'd expect. So it's electronics ... with no circuit diagram, damn it.

I've three UPS's at home - just enough power to see if the main lines are up again in a few minutes, meanwhile, a safe shutdown and no unfortunate reboots.
Meanwhile, at work, with a over-kill Xeon system I have no UPS at all. Not that I haven't asked. The server room has some (I hope!), but if I get a bad zap it'll cost an awful lot of time to reload the system (warranties only cover your hardware, after all - and that could really be the cheap part). No - I won't buy one myself for them. If they don't care, maybe I shouldn't either. Unlike them, I have no head for business decisions.
Well - once again, the request is in the system. We'll see if US$50 is still too much for them to spend. I will not be asking again after this.

Large power failure wiped a few weeks ago, UPS lasted 19 seconds.
Good thing I had an inverter-generator in the trailer, we were down for about an hour

Mine started misbehaving about a year ago. I replaced it with a power strip and intended to get a replacement battery...Funny, the power hasn't failed once since then. I'm feeling lucky!
