So I got this 1099 gig for about a year, and I realize that I really need to do better at tracking time spent. Does anyone have any suggestions for a simple time tracking application for Windows? Nothing fancy, no online stuff (offline only) and free if possible. I would like it to live in the system tray and have some simple reporting I can shove into a simple invoice (I am using Wave at the moment for that). I could write one myself easily enough, but why re-invent that wheel - I would probably start adding hubcaps, suspension, flames down the side, etc.

Yeah, I did my due diligence and googled time tracking - most use some sort of online application, I would like to keep it offline, living on my development machine. I may have to either write it myself or go with an online service

I do my day to day time tracking in a plain old excel spreadsheet. you could you google spreadsheet for free, I think.

Since I changed the inkjet to a laser, I don't have labels - until I get round to buying laser labels, of course.
So I spent yesterday writing an app to print my Card list to envelopes (I wrote a label version last year, but this is a different problem: orientation, single address per page, you know the kind of thing).
So I write it properly: to accept envelopes in any of the four rotations for the flap end, logo and sender address, really sweet - once I'd got my head round Graphics.RotateTransform, and shifting the origin in the appropriate direct and amount. That took a while.
And it worked excellently in Print preview.
So this morning I ran a test on a "dummy envelope" to make sure I'd aligned it all correctly. Perfect. Ran it using the live DB to the printer, and loaded envelopes.
And the first one jams. Badly. The print path doesn't like envelopes, they get caught in the outfeed and rip. 
So all that work is wasted, And I had to hand write them all. Which admittedly took a lot less time that writing the app, but ...

So you bought some nice dead trees with ink on it, bought some stamps, they get displayed for 4 or 5 days, and then they go into the trash-can.

In Word you can only store 2 bytes. That is why I use Writer.

For such stuff I usually
- print 8 addresses per A4 sheet
- Scissors
- Paper glue
- Send
Ofc then I lack smooth envelopes
When in a more fancy mood I
- go to the printers
- Print on very thick paper almost cardboard
- Make them fold it
- Address on the outside, invite on the inside

I did! I learned it's a whole load easier to cheat and print text into a bitmap and then rotate it than to work out what origin relocation factors you need when you use RotateTransform. But then I threw it away as a kludge and did it properly.

Meh,
Step 1) Print them on a regular sheet of paper.
Step 2) Carve them out with knife.
Step 3) Clear packing tape to affix address label to envelope.
Same process for handling the return address.
Common sense is admitting there is cause and effect and that you can exert some control over what you understand.
