The other is an indication of the failure of civilisation, when some foul mouthed bigot can abuse a woman to that degree on public transport with little or no reaction then we have all become a bunch of wimps!
Mind you singing on a bus can be offensive in itself so there may have been some justification in asking her to shut up, I was once subjected to islamic wailing by some woman in a train in Paris, she was asked a number of time to shut up, not one person brought up her race or religion as the reason, she just had a horrible voice!

Those frukkin' hairy jocks are finally gonna get what's coming to 'em, then!
It was only "racially aggravated", which means that the offence was that of public disorder -- in lang.CP, she did a "Friday Dalek" -- which may have escalated further than it would have because of the racial element.
The available penalties for public disorder are a tad low, so the CPS tacks on whatever it can to bump the charge up a bit.
e.g. if she'd said "slap", then "with menace" would have been added to the charge, just to give the magistrate room to hit her with a heavier penalty if it seemed she deserved it.

Stupid PC bullshit. I can see the value in not allowing genuine racism as part of free expression. But it's being used to throw the book at people that don't deserve it.
