I left work early on Friday because of the snow, and it looks like another 4 inches of global warming will fall before the day is out.
There is a possibility of another 'Snow Day' tomorrow, so the PS3 will be in action and the kettle will be on standby all day!
Here's hoping.

Been snowing lightly here for about an hour, supposed to get heavy from early afternoon.
We had a good 6 inches on Friday (fnarr). Took those foolish enough to go to work hours to do a few miles.

I used to live less than a mile from work and would walk in if it became too difficult or dangerous to drive.
I would oftentimes be the sole attendee so would then lock up and go home, (after letting people know I had made it in!)
I now live some five mile away, and a 10 mile trudge in the snow is not an option.
Woo Hoo!

Just mount your skis under the wheels and let your dogs pull the car. Here it was snowing since wednesday and hiding at home is not an option. As if this was something so unusual to occur during the winter. You may live on an island, but don't behave like somebosy from Texas who sees snow for the first time.

We have about 6 hailstones here, been pretty mild on the coast so nothing lying.
The forecast looks good (as in snow) for the next 24-36 hrs, so will have to wait and see.
There is plenty snow lying only 3-4 miles inland, so away to take the kids out to the forest for some fun. Now I go the winters on the merc I can actually move in the stuff

To be fair, you get much more snow normally and therefore are used to it.
The trouble here is that very few of us know how to drive in snow and ice.
(Fortunately, I do).
Anything more than a light dusting causes chaos and closes airports.

To be really fair, when the folk see snow up here, they also sh!t themselves. A couple of flakes and everyone panics. Do they leave for work slightly early no, do they get up slightly earlier to defrost their windscreens, no. Mass congestion on the school run, yes. Or I should say, I see it on the way back from school, as I left 10 minutes earlier and the roads were empty in comparison!

That's not a garden, it's a postage stamp!
Do you need to mow it or is it quicker to find the scissors and do it manually?

It is probably a bigger garden than you get in a lot of (new build) houses these days!

I know! I some friends moved into a new Barrett home a year or so back, and the garden was so small I'm sure they have to barbecue through the kitchen window...

Just you wait, in 6 months it will be summer here and winter there. Then we'll see who's laughing.

Yeah! We'll see then!
In winter the temp drops to...17C. Damnit. That's a good summer in Wales!

Ah yes winter in Cairns where it is just a little too cool to go swimming, except in the afternoon! There is just enough variation in the seasons to make it interesting, nlike Singapore where it is ALWAYS hot.

I saw that photo.
That is not snow; it is just a dusting.
Snow is 77" falling non-stop over 3 days as it did once in December 2001(?) in Buffalo, NY.
Snow is roofs collapsing because of the weight of snow.
Snow is being stuck in a roadside motel because the highways are closed and people stranded on the roads had to be rescued by armored personnel carriers (APC) of the National Guard.

It was just beginning to thaw in Chavtown and then a slight dusting popped over and the last three to four hours it's been a steady rate of fall. No doubt the railways and airports will be affected by such a slight amount. If the Swedes, Danes, Krauts, Norwegians and some of the French saw the chaos a little snow causes here, they'd piss themselves laughing.

We shake our heads in disbelief. There is such a thing as winter tyres you know.
OTOH, I moved down to the Swedish west coast quite some years ago. And it's not much better here.
My wife is German, so we're driving down to Germany a couple of times every year. And northern Germany and Denmark is no better either.
It's all about being used to it, and being prepared. People living in the flatlands seldom experience it, so they're not prepared or trained.

Jorgen, I just noticed the other thread about upvoting and I tried the upvote button on your reply. Don't be too ecstatic about it as it wssn't that you wrote anything wise or which otherwise contributed to superior knowledge or other crap like that. There was a green button so I clicked it.

So far in Livingston it's been snowing all day. Not an issue as it's been "Lance Armstrong" snow...
It was lying earlier, but it's not any more.
