I am getting tempted......really tempted, don't know what I want it for yet, but as I am trying to force my way back into electronics, gadgets and software, one is on my list.
There is a huge variety out there and new ones keep appearing on the market.It's a minefield. What better place to start than here!

I've just got a Anycubic i3 Mega S - the reviews looked good - and it seems to work well, not that I've done much with it yet as it's a Christmas present from Herself ... my real problems were with 3D modeling to start with.
Might be worth a look at these though:

I've got myself a Prusa MK3S a year ago. It's quite popular and affordable printer. I'm using it more often than I thought I will and it quickly became a hobby. Really nice hobby.

I also have the MK3S and love it. Original Prusa i3 MK3 kit[^]
I started out with an Creality CR-10 and it was OK, large print area but a bit of a learning curve to use. The Prusa out of the box has been exceptional!

While I'm sure some people have specific needs for them, it seems to me like, as far as the consumer market is concerned, the fad has already died.
If you "don't know what you want it for yet", I have to think you'll be using it for a while then it'll probably start collecting dust as the novelty wears off.
How far off-base am I?
But hey, who am I to tell you how to spend your money (or not). Could be the best thing you'll ever do for all I know. Just presenting a different point of view.

Well I some general ideas, but no specific projects started yet.
I do have a drawer of electronic stuff that is working its way back to the top of the list of things to do. And with winter approaching!
I am finding I am starting to get more time to myself again so need to get me brain thinking again. The daytime sofa veg for the next few months doesn't appeal.
Remember I have 6 months holiday a year to fill up!

I've personally never used a 3D printer, but I have to imagine that the actual "printing" phase is just a tiny part of any project that ultimately involves a 3D printer...so I would suggest you spend plenty of time getting ahold of and working with 3D models with relevant software and get intimately familiar with the editing process, since this is where you'll probably spend most of your time. If you decide this isn't your cup of tea, then all you'll use the printer for is printing models others have already created.
I'm not trying to be a naysayer...I'm just trying to place myself in that situation and figuring out whether I could justify it. Obviously, YMMV.
