I'm not using Google and their adds are almost unavoidable when you are looking for something else. It's amusing to see them desparately trying to find the right ads after their cookies have diaappeared. It was just a joke, since I deleted all cookies in vain. CP still gives me the strangest combinations of settings.

There are lots of good search engines out there. I use DuckDuckGo.

Also, install Firefox with uBlock Origin. That is a really simple and effective ad blocker.
I also run NoScript, but that is outside of the scope of this discussion.

If you are saying you are using a plain, unprotected browser, then you have bigger problems then ads. You are probably already infected with something. Ads are serious malware vectors.

I use Google for most stuff. Evil empire - perhaps, but their sh*t works.

My FireFox is set to wipe all cookies when I close the browser. No problems w/CP setup. I would imagine they'd be kept on CP's side - or so it seems.
As for Ads, I added Addblock+ to FireFox and they go away. Actually, you need to enable them on CP if you wish to do certain things, like having rollover of a users name show their image, etc.
You may also get so airplay out of BetterPrivacy and Ghostery.
