One is plain text. One is Italic. How can you tell them apart?* This should be addressed by the PTB (Powers that Be/People that Burp/whatever) so that there's no ambiguity in the various forums.

From the typographic point-of-view, these (classic) fonts are designed right...There should not be an italic version of = and - and so...

If what you said was true then I wouldn't have asked. One should never post idly to the CP Forums - particularly the Lounge.
Interpreting this information cannot and must not be left to chance! English is a highly nuanced language and the proper use of punctuation cannot be over emphasized.
It's also a matter of web security: Even now, you cannot be sure whether or not there are some embedded italics in this reply!

Look how much nicer that is with the period at the end inside the terminal quote where it belongs, and, how much more dramatic the interjection is with a real em-dash used before "but."
Note the appearance of "true" double-quotes: (Roman) “” and (italicized) “” and, within code format:

I was actually taught that formatting as well. I didn't like it - visual taste aside, that leaves the sentence otherwise unterminated in a logical manner (double quote part of sentence, so no final punctuation mark).
Somewhere, in relatively recent times, I found they've either allowed (or switched to) the format I used.
Also, I've been messing with punctuation for much of my responses (italics around items where it doesn't show, just to do it).
Or - look on the positive side: I didn't format anything on this page in Comic Sans!

There, you see, I was right! But maybe we should dispense of FB and use CP instead?
So for lunch, I had a DAMN good hamburger with double cheese, bacon and jalapeños.
As for the toilet thing, I don't really recall; This morning, I think... But given the heavy lunch, I would say that there is a visit coming up real soon. I'll keep you posted!

Archaeologists from a couple of hundred years in the future will probably be ecstatic to have it as a resource: firstly because it's the first really detailed insight into "normal" people's lives there has ever been; secondly because archaeologists get more information from rubbish middens than fine pottery; mostly because it will make them feel superior to the "average facebooker" in terms of intellect, vocabulary, ability to use punctuation, ...

If said archaeologists are descended from today's "average facebooker", I'd be surprised if they even knew how to read. We already have people suffering from 2nd-generation illiteracy (their parents and teachers are barely literate); does anyone think it will get better in the future?
