My latest annoyance with windows 10 is I have killed the calculator. I had brought it up and it was in programmer mode. I did a couple of calculations and then needed a function that wasn't available so I wanted to switch it to scientific mode. I clicked the "Scientific" label and it crashed. Now every time I call it up I see a blank window for about two seconds and then it goes away. I can't get it back. It's all done.
I'm at work now so my dogs aren't around to get scared like last time and my co-workers are already convinced I have Tourette's syndrome.
That's life for me with windows 10. I despise the user interface and it keeps doing stupid things and on and on...

Hmm. There's always the usual: look for and clear CALC-related registry entries, .config files and such.

I did and it couldn't find anything beyond the class-type stuff. I didn't find configuration settings anywhere. I would think there are some somewhere because it does "remember" things but I couldn't find where they are kept.

Registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Calc There are two values, a REG_DWORD called Layout that seems to correspond to the view selection, and a binary value called WindowPlacement. I'd give deleting the key a try to get Calc working again.

w10 wasn't designed for serious use - why else would they put such a poor visual interface on it.
w10 is designed by the marketing dept as a sales gimmick, it's the lava lamp of the 201x's.
people would stare at the lava lamp, while mesmerised the sales person would sleaze in to sell the tv it was sitting on.

I'm not so sure. I think this is their idea of a "modern, stylish" interface but I disagree. It may be modern but I find it to be horrendous.

agree, it is ugly. No doubt though a building full of people were paid a shitload of money to come up with that design ... probably ten times as much as what it cost for what's behind it.

To reset the calculator to the default display because Win10 is so Improved and Robust he has to do something completely unrelated to the calculator when it breaks doing something incredibly simple that it is supposed to be able to do? Wow! Lucky this O/S is less than a decade old or it might be in danger of just working.

You'll be thrilled with this video from Build 2017 then. They spent nearly an hour explaining all the visual effects that have gone into some upcoming version of calc.exe. I'm almost not kidding. That's almost an hour of my life I'll never get back.
You know you've dropped the ball somewhere along the way when you have to spend that much time explaining visual effects that are so subtle, people wouldn't have noticed them otherwise.
Back on the topic at hand: Just grab calc.exe from Windows 7. Or XP. Or 95.

Back, shortly after Windows 10 just came out, I had a similar issue with the weather icon. It just did not work, and nothing I did seemed to make any difference. In the end I re-imaged the systems drive with an image taken when the weather app did work. I always keep a fairly recent image around, just in case I need it in situations like these, and for other situations where you may want to re-mage.
Get me coffee and no one gets hurt!

Unfortunately I have installed so much stuff this past week an image wouldn't help me very much. I would have to spend about an entire day installing everything and that's not worth it for the calculator. I'll have to use the one on my phone until I can resurrect the other one.

Given the strange problems you encounter, which I understand is not exactly your fault, I wonder why wouldn't you consider a superior operating system that's in your opinion more usable?

Just type your math expression into google. So much easier than using any calculator app.

OK, I tried to duplicate. No luck...it still works on my machine. I went further and actually looked at the new calculator and have to say I'm impressed with the new conversion features. Good luck!

But in case of Switzerland: The "owner" of the WIFI- Network is responsible what happens on his net... means if somebody uses your unsecured network for iligeal things you (the Network owner) is responsible for that. So I think I helped more than I violate. ?
