Absolutely. I sleep in a hammock and the tarps they sell barely cover the hammock and unless the rain is straight down you're going to get wet. So I made one that will not only cover well but I can cook and sit under it if a good rain comes...and it does rain in Florida. Also it's very light weight.

The popularity of various forms of cosplay, steampunk, dieselpunk, etc. add up to a lot of people who want clothes they can't just buy. There are quite a few DIY and maker sites like threadbangers that show how to adjust and use sewing machines. At least one fabric store in the US has been marketing a line of "cosplay fabrics" recently.
