At least, I think so. Finally found a venue, my vote is for: [^]
Now, I have an idea and I'm curious as to what you think. It's already an urban, hipster wedding, so we were thinking, that in the wee hours, well after dinner service and everyone is pretty drunk: Food trucks will arrive. [^] Served by a man in a lucha libre mask. Am the only one that gets hungry at the end of wedding? Maybe not this one, but there's a hundred hip food trucks, so we would sample them and pick one.

I'm still trying to figure out what a urban, hipster wedding is all about but I'll let that slide.
When it comes to weddings I wish that people would relax and do something simple. Throw up a couple of tents in a backyard, have tons of cold drinks and a big BBQ. Serve everyone at about $10 per person instead of $50+. That way people can relax and enjoy a nice evening of socializing instead of running through the same tired old wedding cliches all evening.
Then again, I'm a man with two daughters - so I might have other motives here.

You'd be surprised at the cost of tent rentals. This venue is probably as much as one!

If you knew, it would be too mainstream and they'd have to change it.

It will not be traditional, no religion involved, probably not going to do a lot of the traditional stuff (throwing bouquet, chicken dance, etc.) The space is essentially an old warehouse painted white. No flower girl, no ring boy, no giant bridal parties or 16+ groomsmen.

The last wedding I went to cost the bride and groom $42.00 per plate for pasta that was cold. There was no alcohol included in that price. For that money they could have treated everyone to a very nice restaurant with appetizers, wine, and a dessert and still saved a considerable amount of money - and had food that was 10x better.
That ticks me off a little bit.
Such a waste.

Was it at a banquet hall? We purposely avoided them for this reason, the food sucks. We had the caterers chosen before anything else. [^] Doing it buffet style, to save money to be able to provide good food. As far as drinks, that will be included. I'll even be brewing my own wine/mead/beer.

When I got married I provided a bottle of red and a bottle of white for every man, woman, and child at the meal, and a bottle of champagne between two.
In hindsight that was probably a little too much, as several (including my own father) got so pissed they were unable to attend the evening do.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

My side is Italian, so they'll probably demand that.
It's going to be a long reception, so we think the second round of food via foodtruck will sober everyone up, and not add to the cost too greatly.

You can always just not offer to help, like my future FIL.

He's probably still upset about the whole gay union thing.
Give him time.

I like that.
When I got married we went simple, we got married in Key West, on our honeymoon trip. And we didn't tell anyone in advance.
Part reason was that I'm Swedish, my family basically only speaks Swedish. My Wife is German and her family speaks only German. So where to get married?
We fled the whole thing, and made three different parties instead. On in my hometown for my family, one in my wifes hometown for her family and one in our house where we live now for our friends.
We also kept it cheap, good catering and plenty to drink was the whole concept.
People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

Congrats but I'm also of the opinion have a simple wedding, take the money you saved and have one hell of a honeymoon. Just my two sense.

Believe me, it will not be a super expensive wedding. Not paying for DJ, I'll draft a bartender, and my friend is a professional wedding photographer with his own business (An assistant will probably shoot it as he'll be guest).
I'm not getting any monetary help, so the budget is <15k.

Interesting choice for post subject. Seems Freudian even with the apostrophe. Marred[^]
Congrats all the same.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Looks big to me, but I guess weddings in the US are bigger affairs than in Europe.
Foods look good and making it a buffé is definitely the right way of doing it.
Congrats by the way, I almost never regret getting married.

I'm actually getting married this Saturday, and while the wedding isn't cheap, it's also not ridiculous. We're doing it at the Jacksonville (FL, USA) Zoo, they're catering, full and open bar, and it's actually a pretty cool venue. One of my best friends is one of those Six Flags Discount Internet Minsters, so he's doing the service, and another friend is a professional guitarist, so he's playing. There are ways to keep costs down if you're resourceful. All in all, the sincere hope is that our wedding will be one hell of a party, so if that's a success, it'll be well worth the expense.
Aside from the whole being married part, anyway...
