I've said it before - ASP.Net CRaP (Core Razor Pages) is just half-baked (on a good day).
0) Last night I was playing around with a CRap app. I have a class that sets a border to "1px 1px 0 1px solid red". Any div that uses that class ends up with a border width of 3-4 pixels. If I take the class out of the div, the bborder goes away.
I don't know if it's VS2017, .net core, bootstrap, or what...
1) I also tried to add fontawesome to the project via nuget. It updated the package dependency, but failed to add the actual files to the project. I had to manually download/add them to the project.
2) After dealing with #2 above, I discovered that CRaP apps apparently use bower (WTF is bower, right?) as the package manager. However, there's no "manage packages with bower" menu item. Further, I read someone on the net that bower has been deprecated and that we should be using a different package manager.
What.The.Actual.F*ck!?

I discovered that you can use static files in a CRaP app. I think I'm going to have to set this up so we can develop on our dev boxes that have no connectivity to the internet.

Thanks for reconfirming my obsession to 'roll my own' on web pages to be the right choice.
Certainly more work up front - but I've a full head of hair that I don't yank on when developing.

You'd think, that this being the 21st century, software development for a given would become easier to understand and do, but it just seems like everything is just bouncing back into anachronisms from the 90's.
While "Core Razor Pages" sounds cool, I think the acronym I've come up with is a more approrpiate description of the framework - CRaP.

What are they looking for when they develop these new versions of doing old things?
I'd really guess they're looking for a way to make it easier and easier to program, possibly in recognition of the short attentions spans now so trendy.
Surely, there must be an easier way than just doing it the right way.

You have to use !important to override all the other styling that the various packages are adding. 
And get the load order right in the 3rd party CSS vs. your own CSS.
It might work then.

I have a style element with the class definition in the cshtml file that's using it, so it's not a precedence issue.
I was playing with it over lunch, and I somehow got it fixed, but I'm not entirely sure how I did it. :/

Not so much a problem with VS2017 or CRaP ( ).
Although the default templates in VS2017 are really bad.
Old versions of libraries and such and, indeed, Bower.
Even the makers of Bower say you shouldn't use Bower anymore.
Bower is a package manager that you can only install using npm, another package manager...
NuGet is horrible for front-end libraries and frameworks, here too npm is the tool of choice.
I've become a fan of CDNs, no more referencing local files that you first have to download/install using package manager x...
For fontawesome I use:

All in all I don't blame VS or Notepad++ or any other editor.
I blame browsers that (used to) implement HTML, CSS and JavaScript just a little bit different.
I blame users for using so many different browsers and versions.
I blame JavaScript that's so limited we need packages for basic functionality such as padLeft.
I blame CSS that has a width and height property, but only actually uses them under very specific circumstances.
I blame the community for not settling with a single standard.
I blame library makers for not being backwards compatible (AngularJS, anyone? And I still haven't managed to update Bootstrap from v3.x to 4).
I blame the total lack of decent tools that drives us to CLI tools such as npm, Gulp and Webpack.
Front-end development is just a burning pile of sh*t and I honestly believe that anyone who likes front-end development is a masochist deep down.
I also think governments should stop waterboarding and force people to do front-end development instead.
I'll take a waterboarding please.

And even if you do know everything, how do you download libraries in the first place?

We have another box that we can use to get to the internet. If we get a sizeable chunk of code off the internet on that box, we copy it to a cd, and then copy it from the cd on our dev box. The boxes are sitting right next to each other. :/

Yeah, it's a DoD job, and it's almost as if the branch I work for is on a mission to disable all connectivity to everywhere. We can't use FTP to transfer files, we don't have shared network drives, our Windows profiles are on our local boxes, which means we have to use a DVD if we want to transfer a file to another machine.
Beyond all that, we have such problematic connectivity that our apps can be renedered completely inert due to a lack of timely data.
I've already talked about the lack of desire to do a rewrite on the 11-year-old code base, because "it would be hard". None of the guys that are here now were involved in the original development. I think they're afraid to do it, yet other companies are creating demos that will be flashier with modern tools/frameworks, and our only saving grace is that *we have the data*. If we could just get permission/resources to rewrite, it would be great.
It pays pretty well, because I'm a contractor. The GS guys get a lot less money.

Lazy day, so dinner = heating up a pie in the microwave (yeah I know, bogan!)
anyhoo reading the instructions, open 1 end of packet, cook for 3 1/2 min (I do it 2 mins then flip it for the rest) ...
one of the instructions says "do not leave microwave unattended while cooking"
umm, are they suggesting something bad may happen with their product??
and even more incase something happens I should be standing near the microwave (perhaps they prefer closely looking in the window)
sorry, still gonna cook that puppy but for sure not hanging around to watch.

On a similar note, there should be transparent toilet seats so that when you give your cat a bath you can watch and make sure that's it's done.
Instructions to wash cat
1. Lift lid add soap
2. Add cat close lid
3. Wait a few minutes while cat thrashes around
4. Flush as many times as needed until cat is reasonably rinsed off.
6. Stand clear and open lid
