The question I have is how were passports, reported stolen over a year ago, still effective in allowing people onto a flight? To me this is proof the efforts of the TSA(1) are really nothing more than a dog and pony show. With all our computerized systems in place it isn't possible to identify when someone is using a stolen passport? These weren't flagged?

According to reports more 'suspect passports' have been identified.
Seems to me checking them after the wreck is a little too late.

What does a 'no fly' list mean if half the people on the plan are using stolen passports?
Can I make my own passport with a 3x5 card and a crayon and board a plane?
Why do they put honest citizens through the wringer on this if they don't even check these things?

NOTES
---------------------------------------------------------
1: I realize this was Malaysian Airlines but would our TSA know about a passport stolen in Thailand two years ago? Somewhere, someone is dropping the ball on this one.
