I spent most of my programming years doing ATE and never had a proper spec or manual test procedure to follow. Most of it was done after I'd completed a mathematical model of the UUT, performed a sensitivity analysis for every component's contribution to the resulting performance, then created a test requirements document and procedure to code against. A few times I had to actually complete the product design for the prima dona design engineer because he was stumped or lazy, just so I could get on with my test development. Test engineers are not happy people, as a rule, but we have to be a hell of a lot smarter than the one-trick-ponies whose products we have to test.
You've had a good challenge here; I've been watching, but not contributing, as I'm really out of date. But I've been through it and know what it can be like. You've got good helpers here, great people who are always happy to assist. They won't all be this difficult - really! One early boss of mine once said something wise (another rarity), to wit: The best program you write is the one you never hear about again. May you never hear about this one again...

Thanks for that, the product in question doesn't have any documentation or anyone who knows. I'm using a language that is Alien to me (VB.NET). My boss comes over with the phrase 'No, no, why are you doing that way?' followed by 'Why doesn't it work that way, oh!', the best one was the quiescent current reading leave board alone it draw slightly higher current in pulses. Boss is lost as to why my best guess was it was looking at the IO ports every so often despite being given the stop command....  . I have been told to add yet another function to it and get it sent by the close of play today!  If it works I will be amazed!

I feel like I'm getting raked over the coals by my cable provider. I'm paying close to $100 per month, between the channel packages, remote rentals, cable box rentals, tax charges, etc.
When I grew up, tv was free, granted we only got 3 channels. Unless I could convince my little brother to stand behind the set and hold up some foil then we would get FOX as a 4th channel.  Ah good times... but I digress.
I would really like to get rid of cable, but my son gets a look of fear on his face like I'm about to cut off his arm. 
We have an Xbox ONE and a 360, so we can stream Netflix to all tv's in the house. I feel the xbox is under utilized and we could access more media through it.
I'm turning this in to a book and I didn't mean to, so in the interest of brevity. Please share if you have an option other than cable? And do you still use the cable provider for internet connectivity. Are there any boxes/devices you recommend for internet tv? Any ideas are welcome?

Same here. My wife and I decided to get rid of this time-consuming and brain-flattening device of mass control years ago.
Now, if only there was a way to cut down on sleeping, I would have some spare time at last.

I just cancelled my DirecTV about a couple weeks ago. I was paying over $100 per month. After analyzing the shows I watch, I figured I can get by with Hulu Plus and Netflix on my XBox; a comibed total of about $16 per month.

I have done just that. I am using cable as my internet provider but I don't have any tv channels. My tv consist of what ever comes over the air and my Roku. I do have a subscription to Netflix and have had Hulu but not any more. Works good for me, most of the time. Over the air gets 'staticy' (sp?) this time of year when we have storms coming round.

I'll have to check to be sure, but I think that Disney is the only one, and that will be subscription based. I am sure that there isn't any ESPN or AMC channels. Although you could probably attach a pc to your tv and watch online, I do with my laptop sometimes. Hulu has a lot of current shows from everyone but CBS, iirc. They only keep the last 5 so you can't watch a whole series. You would have to check and see if Hulu offered the specific programs you want.
I'll try to remember to look tonight and get more definitive.
I did find that the Syfy channel was on netflix and it was free, but when I went to check it out, it was all ads about their shows. No real content. Others might be the same.

I did find a WatchESPN channel. I doubt that it shows games in whole, but it does claim to let you watch sports. There was also an A&E channel but it too required a subscription.

I would dump the cable TV part and keep just the Internet part if my wife would let me. The kid and I only watch Netflix -- XBox360, Wii Uh, Kindle, phones, etc.
You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.
