I do remember hearing about her death. We had been playing cricket on the Saturday and the drinking in the club house had carried on through the night and about a dozen of us had eventually passed out and spent the night there. We were awoken by a woman who had come to find out where her sons were as they had not come home the night before.
It was she who had told us the news, we were shocked and confused, but mostly by the presence of an annoyed woman and the sunlight.
It was decided against reopening the bar as there was another game due that afternoon.

This is a football (soccer) post, it's not my fault if you don't understand it.
I have been working where I currently do since 2007.
I am a Derby County fan. (not my fault, no need to apologise).
In 2007 Derby County played, and beat, West Bromwich Albion at Wembley Stadium in the Championship play-off final to gain promotion to the riches of the Premiership.
We went on to be the Worst Team in History™ breaking all sorts of records for fewest games won, fewest points earned and so on, but that is unimportant to our story.
A couple of days after the game a West Brom fan that I knew emailed me to say he had seen me after the game but was too depressed to talk to me then, and was now up to making contact. Our conversation continued until I said that I was utterly pissed off with my job and he said they were recruiting.
And so there (now here) I went to work.
A week on Saturday I shall again by making my way to Wembley for the Championship play-off final where we shall play Queens Park Rangers.
Where I work has become considerably less fun over the years, the processes have become ever more restrictive, and the annual pay rise has now fallen so far below the rate of inflation it barely even knows what it looks like.
So, any QPR fans going to the game, if we beat you, please give me a job. (is there some sort of begging smiley on this thing).
Please note I am also happy to get a job if we lose or from anyone not associated with QPR or any football club at all.

Sorry for the late reply, and commiserations on Saturday I didn't watch it but it sounded close.
I like him (not sure if I'm suppose too). After 18 years in the championship he came in, we played the best Football I've seen at the Park and got us promoted. When he left for scum I hated him, but then again he got them relegated and came back. He could have been a legend here forever if he hadn't done that.
I think there's a perception outside the club that he caused us to have money issues. It wasn't his fault it was the owners. The dodgy French arms dealer Gaydamak whose son 'owned' the club because he wasn't able to pass the fit n proper test owed Chanrai 17mil and gave him the club instead. Chanrai then coincedently claimed to have put 17m into the club, ringfenced his debt and put the club into administration. Once the cVA was agreed to pay the debters 10p in the pound he bought it back using someone else as a front and did the same thing. He even used a fake shiekh (google it). Where the FL approved someone that doesn't exist for their fit and proper persons test.
To be honest I hated the Premier League, the tickets are too expensive, the players don't give a sh*t and it's all over-hyped. Much prefer the Football League.

Yeah, I agree with most of that. We battered them but couldn't score then we made three errors to gift them a goal with 30 seconds to go.
I was gutted to lose, gutted with the way we lost, but not gutted that we are playing in the Football League again next season. I was over it by the time the final whistle went.
The thing I disliked about the Prem last time we were in it was the cheating from the top clubs. We were abject, they could have beaten us playing on one leg, they just couldn't help diving and crowding the referee and arguing about every dingle decision. It was all so completely unnecessary.
The Championship is a great division to be in. Years ago I said my ideal outcome to a season would be to win the Football League, turn down promotion, have another crack at it the next season?

Hi All,
Regular will know of my current Trials & tribulations. I just haven't heard anything for a good 24 hours (getting toward 36 now!), I am starting to feel a little like I am not doing anything which could be taken as don't care. I have offered to help with something else and been grabbed by the guy to do a chunk of the testing, writing a test piece of software. Still can't the gremlins out of my head about "is it working?  "
