I was doing some "installing VS on a new VM, so I have way too much time to kill" Wikipedia browsing, and came across this tidbit:
November 3, 1962 – The earliest recorded use of the term "personal computer" features in The New York Times in a story about John Mauchly's speech the day before to the American Institute of Industrial Engineers. Mauchly, "inventor of some of the original room-size computers", says that "in a decade or so" everyone would have their own computer with "exchangeable wafer-thin data storage files to provide inexhaustible memories and answer most problems". He is quoted as saying, "There is no reason to suppose the average boy or girl cannot be master of a personal computer.

I can remember a time when companies and their 'visions' barely existed and the clueless masses with their preferences for toys did not dictate what those companies tried to sell us.
Companies, employers and the clueless masses all have no interest in anybody being more a master than they are and decades of dumbing down have produced the current situation. Just take the overwelming 'productivity' we enjoy today thanks to Mickeysoft and all the others. As if we did not get anything done 30 years ago when we had not yet to keep up with endless frameworks with a new version every two years. There really was a time when productivity meant that you knew your hardware, your OS and whatever programming language you used (not a new one every two minutes) and got things done.
And the worst crime was to make everyone think that they have no chance to be come something like a master.

Well, sort of. It's about a decade too fast. Considering how often predictions are totally off, it was a really good prediction. If enough people had believed him, the timeline might have been spot on too. Of course, Microsoft would probably have remained small potatoes too. The real timeline worked out well for Gates.

So, the 7" Dell Venue tablet comes with Android 4.2. Specs aren't exactly out of this world, but it goes for $150 (for the 16GB model). Probably less if you look around.
Given that this is running an x86-compatible Intel CPU (an Atom Z2560 to be exact), could one not run some version of Windows on this hardware?
I realize the Dell Venue is also available with Windows 8.x, but it goes for an additional $100 or so.
I'm merely curious what would happen if you 'burned' a Windows ISO on a MicroSD card and tried to boot from it. Surely it wouldn't be that simple...
(The only thing I know about what the process what might look like is what I remember from installing Cyanogenmod on another tablet a few years back)

I don't think it would work too well - you would be lacking all the drivers so I suspect it wouldn't even boot straight away.

Windows these days comes with an insane number of drivers--I wouldn't expect *everything* to work, but given that the Venue 8 is mostly the same hardware, I'd be surprised if--assuming the boot process gets kicked off--it'd be close to fully functional...

I doubt it would be as easy as copying a windows ISO onto an sdcard, but you can probably flash an img or a zip. Never used that tablet so I don't know how the bootloader/recovery/boot system works, but flashing capabilities are pretty standard. Of course, if the bootloader is locked/protected, all bets are off.

You're charged for the EMC hardware or the space on it? My team is charged that for the disk space, not the hardware.

Sometimes, it's hard to understand corporate economy. Wanted some work from my nephew, who was promised $5K upon delivery of software he would write. They paid $60k for the equipment that my nephew used to create the software. They refused to give him the $5K promised. He refused to return the equipment until he was paid. He's heading to Ca. with a very nice set of equipment. He's happy with them not giving the money still due him.
