Hi All,
I have done a lot of C a fair amount of VB6, experienced some VB.NET (say no more!), a fair amount of C# and some other languages including C++, I am now seeing a lot people advertising for Scripting wizzes. I only have some limited experience with Python (I am still trying to get better) and debugging some TCL scripts. Are they really worth it, I mean if I needed to install some drivers or something I would cook up a batch file and go (mind you Windoze 8 has probably nuked that as well)... I have used some TCL test scripts which I think I could cook up an application to do in less time...just wondering Yes it's that Friday time...

Hmm, A detail often missed with my CV is my skills with Gaffer Tape (or Duck Tape as this Xed calls it). So it can be used where a more elegant solution would take too long...I have repaired everything from RFID readers to flip flops with the stuff. I have seen it do things that I thought was impossible. Give me a soldering iron, leatherman/multitool, reel of gaffer, I can fix or bodge most things with those three, try explaining why you have a reel in your bag at customs...

You think that's tricky to explain - when I was replacing the battery and earth straps on my car I was equipped with a pry bar, a tub of Vaseline and a number of cable ties. That would have been a difficult conversation if the police had happened upon me walking along the street...

Maybe they cost less?
Or the advertiser doesn't understand the problem and thinks it can be done with a script very quickly.
Or tried it with a script, failed, and still thinks it can be done that way.
Or had a pile of script poo dumped in his lap and just wants it gone.

It's better than Eclipse, but far worse than Visual Studio. You can still get things done very nicely though.
Especially when it comes to debugging and running your projects on remote devices.

For emulation am using GenyMotion way better than the one provided with AS, at least with an AMD processor.

I am not using any emulators, Android studio is using adb.exe in android-studio\sdk\platform-tools to debug a runtime project.
If you run:
adb.exe connect < IP address of device connected to your network >
then every run or debug first re-installs the app on the device and is executed directly on the device, including step by step debugging.
Pretty nifty.

What are people's preferences for using numbers or letters for a field that indicates the status of something? If something is 'In Progress' you might use the letter 'I' in a Char field or a 1 in a number field for instance. As soon as the record is 'Complete' it get updated to a 'C' or a 2 for instance.
My preference is number, so that they can easily be turned into an enum at the code end. It causes arguments at work like you wouldn't believe....!
Anyone care to make a view?

A number, with a related status table holding the number and a text description, so it can be displayed in reports etc.
