Don't try it in the northeast, but you're fine here in the southwest.

Even if they are not trying to screw you, it's a stupid policy. Unless it's lot of money in question, I'd rather spend that day staring into blank space, then 'proving' my 'worth' to company like that. I mean, do you really need two days to determine if someone can code, seriously? If you need that much time, maybe you're not that good developers after all.

"A second code challenge, no problem, my rate is £X an hour, is that cool with you?" would be more or less my response

That's an excellent response!

So I took a cruise through Oatman and the mountains behind it on the way home from work tonight, scouting for a likely place to go shooting this weekend. I am careful to look for places that are on public lands - no private property - with a good backstop, few rocks, and no vegetation, since the fire hazard is so high this year.
While hiking about a likely spot, I ran across a young woman who was obviously despondent, at the end of her rope, standing on the edge of a cliff and trying to work up the courage to jump. Naturally I was terribly concerned about such a tragic waste, so I approached her and asked,
"Miss, since it's clear that you intend to kill yourself, would you mind having sex with me first?"
She shoved me away and screamed, "You perverted bastard! Get away from me!"
I'm a patient fellow, and not wanting to cause her any further pain, I walked away, telling her on parting, "That's okay. I'll just go wait at the bottom."
My package never arrived...

It's just maybe I'm more sensitive or it's not suppose to be in the Lounge.
but it's funny.

You're absolutely right, Karen; it really shouldn't be in the Lounge. It's borderline, but the funny factor outweighed naughty bit. Besides, I don't know of any modern kid sister who would find it shocking or naughty. Standards have slipped from the days when I was a kid brother.

Yeah. Kids these days are more open to those topics unlike kids before.

Quite funny.
It wasn't because that you waited below that she never jumped. I was next in line.
Is KSR supposed to be KSS or a variation?

You wanted to jump after her for Roger? You are one disturbed little puppy.

It's KSS as long as it's not my sister?

I've been using Windows 8 since the first developer preview waay back, and have defended it against the naysayers, and then it goes and does this on me. After a while, my desktop/downloads/recent places links become rendered useless! This has happened multiple times on multiple machines, and no I don't use a Microsoft account, always sign into the machine locally so it's not like it happened once and then synced to the other machines. Anybody any idea why this happens?
Had this on both 8.0 and 8.1 on different occasions,

Maybe it happens because it is a Microsoft product!

Well that looks fun. A quick search shows people having this issue on Windows 7 as well, though, and it has something to do with file associations; restoring the defaults seems to fix it. (Now can one restore the defaults without wiping out any associations you've added while installing applications? Hope so.)

Did you install a program just before that happened ?
Or possibly open the link with a different program than normal?
The error says the file type association is not there anymore.
Most likely something tried to take over that file type and then messed up so then nothing was associated with it.
Or it got corrupted when power went out or Went to sleep.
With out recording "what" changed it, it would be hard to pin down.
I have seen several odd quirks to Win 8, including the need to do a factory reset to get it going again.

It happens because you use Windows 8 .
I'm still dinosauring away on my Windows 7!

Yesterday I installed 8.1 in a VM, it was literally the first time I've ever used 8/8.1. Half way through the install it says something went wrong with the group policy but carries on anyway. The desktop part of it literally does not work, all the icons glitch out and can't be clicked.

This is a safety measure... Given the fact you are novice this is intended to be there in order to avoid you to press them...
