Don't know if it will make any difference, but have you tried ES's Tools -> Remote Manager? (If that is the method you are using, I apologize.) I use it quite often across the wireless network and have never noticed any speed issues, but I haven't sent very big files between my Samsung and the computer. On a side note, ES impresses the heck out of me.

I'm using ES File Explorer, and it works well, apart it also fails to move files internally from one place to another one...
What it looks like is that if there are pictures or files that can be opened with other applications those apps prevent renaming and moving of those pictures and files...
Anyway, I've not been able to find the app you are suggesting, could you paste a link?

In ES File Explorer itself, on the bottom there is a bar with a '+ New' on the left. Drag that '+ New' to the right and you will get a Fast Access bar. In it there is a 'Tools' category, and the 'Remote Manager' is under it. It is self-explanatory from that point, although I don't think the files are copied via encryption if that is a concern, unless your router does so.
There are lots of goodies in that Fast Access toolbar, which is the reason ES File Explorer has me impressed so much. Under 'Network' there is an 'FTP' section that negates the need for the FTP program someone else recommended, as far as I can tell. The only thing I can't figure out is why it is free - it's worth money, unless there's spyware hidden within it.

OK, clear now, yes, es file explorer works well, it's nice and has plenty of functionalities, but the problem is then that it fails working against the sdcard. 
Probably the problem here is that the KITKAT os version is killing the sdcard access...
I can do it from my computer really slow and sometimes it fails, but when I'm trying to use any app in the cell phone to handle files into the sdcard then failures happen.

You are probably right - it's KitKat. It doesn't make sense, though, as ES is showing the files I'm accessing as being on an SD card on my phone (4.4.2). Are there now two SD cards - one internal and one external? Anyhow, perhaps the other FTP server mentioned above (and not the accessor in ED) will do the trick. Good luck!

Must be, FTP is neither working in ExtsdCard... I can read but not write...
Google has nailed it with this new "no acces to sd" policy...

That sucks! I guess the only option is to take it out and plug it into a card reader on your computer Or hack Android.
(Are you transferring via USB? Everything I've read indicates that should still work properly???)

Yes, it works (mostly): it is really slow and some times it fails in doing standard operations (like shutting down my explorer and realigning desktop icons in my Windows 8.1...
I'll keep searching for a solution and if I find something I'll post a tip with that... crossing fingers here...

Can you keep a portion of your internal storage relatively free, and use it as an intermediary area for your uploaded/downloaded files? Then you might be able to use ES to copy those files from/to your computer via the earlier means, and then use the 'My Files' app which comes with your phone, and is given the appropriate permissions by Google, evidently, to copy them to/from the SD card? Would that speed things up? Or would it even work? It means a lot of fiddling around if it does...

I can rename folders with that "My Files" app in the SDCard, I can't rename file extensions with it though...
It is incredible to see how tedious can be making normal file operations with android...
What you suggest would work though. It will be a little bit artificial but thank you!

It seems kinda stupid that you can use your internal memory more easily than your SD card. Makes me think Google is losing it. Are they soon going to lock down internal memory, and turn it into an iPhone wannabe?

Yes, it looks plain stupid, I can't understand which logic has driven Google to remove the remote storage access from their phones, given Android is flexibility, this is not looking good.
The old blackberry I had was wonderful in this aspect, plugged and running in any computer in a few seconds and the speed was only dependent on the card itself.
Now, when I use the USB cable and try to make standard and easy file operations from Windows 8.1 it fails (slow and unreliable).
If I try to use a little bit more artificial method (FTP or others) it fails as those programs are not able to write on the SDCard.
I could use that middle step (sending files into the internal memory and then moving them using "my files" to the SDCard) but if what I want is to rearrange folders in my SDCard this has no sense and it would be terrible.

Just wondering what the current favourite program is for viewing PDF files.
Adobe Reader may be good again, but I wouldn't know as it is the Norton or Telstra of the PDF world.
I am currently using Foxit Reader 5.4.5, had 6.0 for a short period of time, but the f***er wouldn't stay out of my browser so I put it out of my misery. Yes I know about the options/preferences to turn of show in browser, but it just wouldn't turn off.
So what should I look at? Is Foxit Reader 6.2.2 working correctly again?

The last REader version is ok for me (with updates turned off). Computers are now so powerful that the 1Gb RAM it needs does not impact performance anymore.
You can prevent Adobe from invading your browser ; I honestly do not know what is exactly displaying PDFs in my browser (Adobe plug-in or the browsers nateively), but it works, so I never bothered looking.

I second PDF Xchange Viewer.
I used Foxit for all my client machines for a long time but it began to get almost as intrusive as Adobe so I switched to PDF Xchange and I have used that for a year or so without problem.

Adobe Reader still is the consistent winner for me. Overall, I have the least amount of problems with it compared to other pdf software that I have tried/used in the past.

I use SumatraPDF, it's simple & speeder. Before SumatraPDF, I did use Foxit but it was also same as Adobe Reader during later days.
As a fan of comics, I'm happy with SumatraPDF to view pdf files.
