Chris wrote the spec for Javascript, after he tired of all the limitations of the VBScript he used in creating this site. And, yes, I still have a copy of the original CodeProject website code for blackmail purposes. He'll probably blame it all on David and Uwe, but we know better...

I have a Request For Suggestion regarding what is the easiest way to build an e-commerce site (to sell a software package) that looks decent, and where to host it. My priorities are that the website-producing tool be:
Easy/Fast (I want to spend most of my coding time on my software product, not on its website)
Low cost
Doesn't look cheesy
Basically, I just want to create a site that describes what the software is, with a couple of screen shots, and a download button, along with a PayPal (I reckon) button. I haven't fully thought it through yet as to how I will work out the trial version/paid version logistics, but I think that's enough info to get the suggestions I'm seeking.

Is this a software product that could be done as an app? I think that the AppStore has somewhat replaced the idea of self-hosted software stores.

Then why does most software have its own site?
Actually, if there was a "turnkey" solution like an AppStore, that would be awesome, but this is a Windows 7 / Winforms desktop app - not a Windows 8 or phone app, so I don't think it qualifies as an AppStore candidate. I'd be happy to be disabused of my pessimism, though, if it were warranted.

Can anyone really explain to me what this is all about? So far it seems to be a bunch of hoopla that makes things harder and not better. In all fairness I don't know much about it how all works, but when I see something like this[^] I have to wonder what was being smoked when they came up with it.

I agree it's weird to anyone with more maths ability than a gnat or gnu, but how often has something like this happened:
