I agree. With as fast as the earth is supposedly moving I should be able to jump in the air and make a full court dunk as the other side of the court rotates to catch up to me.
It would be nice to skip across the country though in a short time.

Dosn't a sniper have to factor in earth's rotation on really long distances? If the planet does not rotate, the bullet should miss him if he has the guts to prove his ideas this way.

That made no sense then, and it still makes no sense now -- but then it was in a comic, where precious little makes sense.
That's also why there's a difference of an hour between flying to and from China (The "experts" are completely wrong on this).
When you're flying against the rotation of the Earth, you actually move slower, because the atmosphere is pushing the other way; when you go with the rotation of the Earth, you go faster, because the "wind" (which is not a wind) is behind you.

Well you know, it goes both way! 
It just much simpler to imagine the earth as rotating around the sun to describe the whole universe!
Apart from that tiny detail, it's just as true that the sun is orbiting the earth!
