We don't have downvotes now, but we used to. It was a narrow string to walk then, and now spam/abuse has taken its role.
BTW: You could always ask Chris to have a look at them, so I'm not too concerned. I view it as more annoying than a real problem.

Hey it may happen, when I started it was common for half the staff in a department to smoke, every block of desks had its own set of ashtrays and you smoked far more than you did out outside of work as when anyone lit up everyone lit up.
Had you proposed a ban then you would have had a similar reaction.

I don't see anything abusive -- the closest thing to abuse I saw was something about someone being a foreigner, which I confess I didn't understand.

"Johnson" has been a movie/TV euphemism for decades, so it's pretty well entrenched in real English, not just the "Johnson-come-lately" varieties*.

A mooch through my posting history shows that I've had messages voted as abuse, too -- the trend appears to be any post that contains a reference to penises (no matter how abstract), and anything that doesn't show an immense amount of unearned respect for Jews.
