Technically, it's a word-choice error. "Tire" is a valid English word, just not the correct word in that context. Poke tongue | ;-P

Originally the spellings tire and tyre were interchangeable, but in the 17th century tire became the settled spelling, which has remained the spelling in the USA. In Britain the development of the pneumatic tyre seemed to require some differentiation from the metal rim, and tyre was revived.

Yes, I'm American and I use some British terms in place of their American versions. Confuses the hell out of some people!

Better than the sound of eeeeaaaaawwwweeeeeesssscccrrrrr - which is probably the sound my car made when some git put three 60cm lines of green paint on it and dented the wheel arch when they tried to park next to my 8 week old white car at the weekend.
There is a bounty out on them - although as yet they have not been identified...

Same thing for me over a week ago. The tire had a huge hole in it. Had to get towed. Took over 3 hours. If I'd had a real spare, 10 minutes.
