I am finding myself in meetings where someone keeps talking about 'integrations' and 'I want to automate everything' when they have not written one line of code in their lives.
I had to explain in a meeting that while 'integration' is one word, there is a whole level of complexity required in order for the 'integration' to work.

The level of complexity increases by a factor of 5 for every subsystem integrated into the new monolithic system. "They" typically have no clue as to what they're asking for, and assume that it should only get easier with every additional subsystem.

I think that does probably describe the thinking behind this.
In an recent 'integration' which was a case of Extract Transform Load - the head of IT was surprised by what was required stating "why can't we just integrate the two systems" - after speaking to a colleague we worked out that he meant "Why can't I take system A developed by company Aardvark and click on a menu point to connect all of the data to system B designed by company Zebra?"
It's shocking how the marketing mob have moved in to IT, or rather how so many(non-technical people) in IT have been 'educated' by the marketing mob.

I'm in charge of all our integrations. Creating, deploying, maintaining, supporting, everything.
I've quit.
I am alarmed at the lack of worry about that amongst the key people here.
They got a quote from the vendor for the software we use to maintain things after I leave, it was a lot more than they're paying me.
That came as a surprise to them.
Next they sent up an admin user to find out what she needed to take over the role from me.
I told her.
She went away again.
They have also sent a PM to produce a handover document, she spent a few hours with me going through all the things I do. Now she is expecting a document with a list of tasks that I do, and a document to tell someone how to do it.
They don 't seem to understand that you actually need skills and knowledge and lots of experience to do this job.
I find it insulting.

I think it's a modern phenomenon.
15 years ago I found that most users, while being perhaps IT illiterate, at least respected the knowledge and experience a professional had.
Now I find people using buzzwords all the time, buying in software that has huge hidden costs and then look down at me when I try and explain the time required to wire together two systems.
I would never pretend to understand the workings of my car and defer to mechanics with great respect.

Quite! Someone asked me to transfer all I did to a junior developer and a LAMP stack developer in 6 weeks. When I explained that "transfering 20+ years of experience and knowledge in 6 weeks is not possible" he got a bit miffed and stated that he did not expect me to do a "brain download" - well what does he flippin' expect
