There must have been a different update that did this because I have automatic updates turned off on my machine and actively refused the update referenced in the Insider.
After the reboot, I had the little Win10 icon back.
So I broke down and installed the tool that nukes all that Win 10 upgrade stuff and won't worry about it again.

It's really too bad that we still can't do WPF development on Linux. I'd switch in a heartbeat.

$ yum update
or
$ pacman -Syu

So I turned on the iMac for the first time in a couple of years. Several updates are required as well as the El Capitan upgrade.
Install the updates and restart and all is good. Then go to upgrade El Capitan and now the FagStore wants me to secure my account with 3 question/answer combos. What a load of shite.
Don't know what questions I selected, but the answers are either Faarrrkkkk off, Faarrrkkkk you or Faarrrkkkk it. Hope I get several attempts to answer if needed.

I run an i7 8GB laptop and today as it became evening I really noticed that the monitor was blazing bright.
I attempted to set my brightness and even though the onscreen meter shows it changing, it did not change. what?! obviously another MS Update FAILURE!!!
I went through youtube and the first solution to change the monitor option did not fix it.
So I had to watch another video and finally was able to determine that I had to solve it by installing old drivers which were fortunately still on my computer.
I cannot believe the waste of time that Microsoft creates with these JUNKY FORCED UPDATES!!
It's really terrible.

Yeah it's like they're retarded now.
We just wasted 1/2 a day removing a February office update from customer's computers which royally horked word 2013.
We turned off the automatic corrupdates on the way out on each. Thank goodness they're not on 10 where this insanity can't be turned off.
I like to get paid and you're giving us work but sheesh Microsoft....

There you go again. Bringing logic into it. These are people who never let fact get in the way of a good rant, despite the fact that they're supposed to actually know something about computers. On the whole it's best to just stand well back and let them fizz out. Don't go poking the wasp's nest by saying stuff like you've just had your umpteenth successful automatic update without the slightest hitch. I did once, but I think I got away with it!

Yes that's exactly what it ended up being. Had to install an older version.
Before I installed the older version the monitor was at full brightness -- like staring at a lightbulb.

And then people say, Apple geeks are awkward for always embracing the new technology based on its design only.

What I'm wondering about is, what the reason to replace a two years old phone? Was it broken?
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

It might as well have been. It was a truly horrible experience at the end. Each software update degraded the experience of the phone, bit by bit.

Samsung seems to have issues with embedded software of their devices. In recent months there were countless complaints on the Amazon website that "upgrading" the embedded code of Samsung SSDs, completely ruined the devices. The bad part is that the SSDs out of the box worked fine, until they were upgraded.

I felt the same way when I got my $50 Samsung Galaxy Core Prime (quadcore) running Android 4.4.
Just got it in December and I am still very happy with it.
Inexpensive, large screen, beautiful display and very responsive.

My wife has had a couple of Samsungs (Stratosphere and S4 Mini?) and liked them, but the screens seemed to degrade after just a year or two. Still, I'm suggesting she try the S7 Edge. She's due. She's mostly unsure about having such a large phone.
