Hi Stephan.
I've just noticed that my Sharepoint Index retuns 0 documents, I don't know why. Maybe it has something to do with my problem.
I'll check this first and give it a try, I'll post back with the results.
Thank you.

Hi Stephen,
I am also getting the same error as above. what could go wrong? I had followed all the steps, except including css file in the search template. Is it because of that? what exactly needs to be done here.

Sanjeev

I have a similar problem. In my case, testing the http://spsserver/_vti_bin/search.asmx asks me for username/password.
I have the following configuration:
A server "cmsserver" with CMS, the content is on "Default Web Site" and its application pool has the identity of "domainname\sps_query"
Another server with SPS, I have configured a content pointing to "http://cmsserver", and it has been indexed. Searching form SharePoint works ok. The user "domainname\sps_query" has the Search Right in SharePoint.
What can be wrong?
Thanks

I ran into a problem where my login form was disabled by the search form.
Solved it by adding some onKeyPress events to my login user/pass text boxes.
All seems to work in IE, but not firefox?
(Has that javascript ever worked in firefox - seems to do some object sniffing for cross browser support)

No, it has not been tested on Firefox Before I upload a revised version, please do the following:
1) In SearchInput.ascx line 4, change
function clickButton(strID) {
to
function clickButton(strID, event) {
2) In SearchResults.ascx.cs line 44, change
private const string OnKeyPressFormatString = "return(clickButton('{0}'));";
to
private const string OnKeyPressFormatString = "return(clickButton('{0}', event));";
Hope this helps.

Worked like a charm first time...
Thanks for the excellent free code

You are welcome!
P.S. I meant SearchInput.ascx.cs line 44 in my last reply but I guess you know that.

I've tried to implement the search control, but running into a strange issue.
I have CMS installed locally on my development machine and when I execute a search from my local machine (http://localhost...), everything appears to be working normally.
However, if I browse to my machine from another computer (http://computername...), I get no results back and it fails with a 401 error.
I have set my web.config to impersonate the current user when browsing the page.

Instead of creating a generic search account; how would I customize the search to search the site under the context of the user browsing it?
The reason is, we have several sections of the site that are not available to all users; but I would like to return the results pertinent to each individual.
Thanks.

The FilterRights property of SearchResult will handle this. Default is true which means if the user does not have rights to see a posting, the posting will not be shown in the search result.

Hi,
I'm trying to get the searchcontrols working but till now without success. First I got the message (in debug mode) that the URI is empty. I just hardcoded the url to search.asmx and that message was gone. Now I get the error: "Path property must be set before calling the Send method". I have the feeling that is has something to do with security, am I close? Any idea how to solve it?
Many thanks in advance,
Peter

Is there a simple way of setting the Content Index that you want to search from the search form?
e.g. Having a drop down to choose between the cms content and the portal content.

Please check out the latest version.

I have implemented the search but just get the following error:
'The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.'
Is there a way of setting logon details for the search web service?

If your CMS site is running in IIS6, try adding your CMS Web Site Application Pool Identity user as "Reader" to SPS. It is ususally "Network Service". For IIS5, I think it is ASPNET.

Thanks for your reply.
I ended up setting the details manually to a custom sps reader account with
NetworkCredential("uid", "pwd") etc...

Hello Stephen,
I have integrated SPS2003 & CMS2002 Search without any problems and it works fine. There is only one Problem, if I search for keywords(meta-tags) in the SPS Site(Portal) I find the page but if I search for the same keyword on my CMS Site with the same Scope I didn´t find anything. What´s wrong? Is it an error in the "Select" statement? Can you please help me? Thanks a lot!
Best Regards
Andy
