I appreciate the proactive step in punishing the offenders but it is a reactive trend. How about sending a warning message which can help as a preventive measure. Isn't prevention better than cure always?

This is due to the lack of clipboard support, and the hoops we have to jump through.
We do not get the benefit of a "The users is pasting text" message (let alone the pasted text itself - which would be nice!). We get a "text was pasted" message after the text has been pasted, so we try and compare what is there after the paste with what was there before.
In your case you had "Data structure alignment". You then highlighted this, pasted and ended up with "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_structure_alignment". We search forwards and backwards to try and narrow down the change in the text to try and guess what was acutally pasted. In this case the change we see is "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_structure_". The ending "alignment" match and so our code thinks that these were the same before and after, not having anything else to go by.
Clipboard handling has to be one of the top Absolute Disasters of Browsers in my book. They have tried to enforce security of the clipboard using the safest possible method: not implementing it. There are hacks around, some using Mozilla's ugly XUL, Flash or even Java. They all kinda suck.

Your vote the first time was obfuscated. With that said, the system could not read your first vote so it let you vote a second time. I'm sure if you try again, it will let you vote to infinity and beyond.

Different browsers?
I've opened the weekly polls up to non-members so I track votes by cookie, not member ID. Yes, it can be abused, but these things are for fun, and are not a scientific experiment.
